Six Big Timber seniors earned spots on the Midland Empire Class B all conference football lineup. The team honors seniors only with no two-way players, featuring Rick Henthorn at linebacker and defensive standout status for Herders.
Mrs. O. M. Mabry is named to SDCEC as County Chairman at large by the state Democratic convention in Butte. She joins the State Democratic Central Executive Committee, a historic first for Sweet Grass County. Delegates from the county were Alban Roemer Mrs. Ethel Davis and Mrs Mabry with others present including Mrs Roemer and Mr O M Mabry.
Margaret Hanson daughter of Mr and Mrs Stanley Hanson was hospitalized Sunday in a Butte hospital with a broken nose and minor contusions after her car was hit by a truck near the top of the Butte hill en route to Long View Washington. Her parents travelled to Butte and returned Tuesday night and she is set for discharge by week’s end.
Letter from Gordon Sargent, Big Timber Jaycee president, urges Sweet Grass County residents to support a statewide and national Project Prayer. Calls for petitions to back a non denominational school prayer and the right to read from the Bible in space missions. Invites men 21 to 35 to attend Jaycee meeting November 17 at 8 00 p.m. in the Fire Hall.
A requiem mass for Mary M. Jasper 82 was held at St Josephs Catholic church with Rev. John Haligowski presiding. Organist Norene Jacobs and soloist Mrs. Marvin Barber led music. pallbearers included George Michels Arthur Michels Ed Schmidthofer Harry McComb Ron McDonnell and Virgil Broughton. Burial followed at Mountain View cemetery after Rosary at Lowry Funeral Home. She was born November 9 1886 in Bozeman and lived in Big Timber before moving to a ranch near Elk Creek then Portland and back to town in 1944. Survivors include sister Helen Dodge and brothers Raymond Woolsey and Graham Woolsey.
Champion feeders George and Sidney Camp led Hereford stock at the Chicago Show and Feeder Sale. The Camp Brothers Ranch captured first in two sets of yearling Hereford heifers and first in a 20 head steer lot.
Parents and interested citizens are invited to visit Sweet Grass High School at 7 p.m. Thursday November 13 to meet the faculty and view facilities, with a student body program. Big Timber Grade School also welcomes families November 13 and 14 for American Education Week open house.
The SGHS notes list Big Timber players Gary Bainter Rick Henthorn and Brent Moschelle named to the Midland Empire conference first team with honorable mentions Larry Hauge Mike Clayton and Ron Stutterheim. Henthorn among four outstanding players.
Meagher County News reports University of Montana President Robert Pantzer urged a two unit system with feeder community colleges to replace the costly six unit setup. He criticized current four year and vocational offerings and called for revamping or replacing existing colleges with two year vocational centers and a simplified system.

Residents report air let from tires in several streetside vehicles. A man knocked on a resident’s door at 4 30 a m Sunday. A pickup blocked 4th and 5th Avenues east Sunday morning. Vandals cut and rolled 350 feet of Telephone Company cable behind the office causing $75 damage. Investigations ongoing. A rancher north of Big Timber reported out of county vehicle and missing metal fencing. Bozeman snow survey crew members were overdue but later found safe. A Jeep shooting from vehicle at livestock pasture. car breakdown east of Reed Point. older pickup lacking tail lights reported. Accidents: round up of three incidents with two injuries and vehicle damage. investigations by Undersheriff Maitland and local patrols.
Fish and Game Earl Green of Billings pleaded guilty and paid a $10 fine for operating a motor boat without valid registration. Highway Dean K. Hoffman of Bozeman also fined $10 for passing on a solid center line.
The American Institute of Architects launches an effort to train poor and disadvantaged youth for design careers. Hugh M. Zimmers says the nation needs more qualified architects and must tap a talent pool including blacks. Black faculty from six schools spent last summer in major firms, a breakthrough Whitney Young calls a promising first step.
The Fraser-Huntley Hereford Ranch plans its 16th annual production sale next Monday November 17 at the ranch seven miles west of Reed Point. About 60 Hereford bulls from Evan Mischief Husker Mischief and Onward Mischief lines will be sold starting 12 30 p m with lunch beforehand. Auctioneer Bob Schnell of Lemon New Mexico will conduct the sale.
The 20th annual Career Conference for junior high and high school girls of the Midland Empire will be held at Eastern Montana College of Education on Saturday Nov 22. The day runs from 8 a.m. registration to 3 45 p.m. tea and campus tour, with 17 speakers covering career sessions across fields.
The Sweet Grass Pioneer Society held its annual banquet and officer election on Saturday November 8 at the Dugout with about 46 seated. Frye's Cafe provided the turkey dinner. Entertainment featured Chloe Vik Tim Hathaway Judy Grosbild Mrs Maitland Sage Hens and Mrs Longstad. Officers re elected: George Lamach president Thressa Clark vice president Mrs Ed Mack secretary treasurer.
Moisture remains needed in Montana with half the counties in the north central district lacking adequate top soil moisture. Winter wheat conditions are fair, ranges and pastures improved after moisture, and most range livestock are on winter ranges with adequate water. Field crops harvest nears end with 5 percent of sugar beets remaining and yields and sugar content very good.
Byron Grosfield led table topics as new Toastmasters officers were elected for 1970. Ken Wilcox was named president, Bob Meinrod educational vice-president, John Ronneberg administrative vice president, Dallas Roots secretary treasurer, and Don Tetlie sergeant at arms.
A public meeting will be held Thursday evening in the Columbus high school gym to discuss wilderness classification. Speakers include representatives from the U S Forest Service Montana Wilderness Association and Sierra Club along with mining industry voices. The session mirrors a prior meeting in Big Timber and aims to improve public understanding of the Wilderness Classification Act.
The Wiligro Garden Club sponsors a Hobby and Craft Show at the Fraternity Hall on Friday and Saturday November 21 and 22. Displays may be set up Friday morning 9 to 12 and the public is invited to share creativity. Pie and coffee will be served Saturday afternoon.
The Big Timber Lions club hosted a zone meeting with members from Absarokee Bridger and Red Lodge plus 12 host club members. Zone chairman Joe Kojancik led discussions on club projects membership growth and January rededication activities. Joliet Lions club is no longer operating and the next zone meeting will feature a zone social.
