A Lewistown meeting on May 26 begins the second phase of a 25 year road program linking Montana high line to central and southern regions. Montana highway 10 ends in Big Timber and connects to Yellow stone park and Saskatoon. Local groups plan to form an active association to promote travel along the route from Malta Roy Lewistown Judith Gap Harlowton to Big Timber and beyond.

Anniversary speakers set for Lutheran fiftieth year
Dr. Daehlin president of the Rocky Mountain district of the Evangelical Lutheran church will speak and dedicate at the Lutheran congregation’s fiftieth anniversary service. He also headlines the Saturday Night of Praise. Rev Onstad of Hope Lutheran Bozeman will address the Communion service concluding the anniversary on Sunday evening.

Last Rites for Frank Bergholm Held
Funeral services for Frank John Bergholm 81 were held at the Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon. He died at Community hospital last Thursday of a heart ailment. Survivors include his widow Emma and four children Adeline Manis Floyd S Bergholm Juanita Hale and Erwin Bergholm along with two brothers and nine grandchildren. He was born in Smoland Sweden July 4 1875 and came to the United States at age 19 becoming a citizen in Red Wing Minnesota in 1905. He worked as a carpenter and helped build grain elevators across North Dakota and Montana before settling in Kalispell in 1920 and Big Timber in 1933. Interment was at Mountain View. Pallbearers were Oscar Forsythe Ed Hower Teddy Thompson Tom Lomeland Norman Hale and Kenneth Roe.

Sandsness Golden Wedding Anniversary Remembered at Family Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. James Sandsness were honored guests at a family dinner marking their golden wedding anniversary. Attendees included son-in-law Ed Hanson and wife, plus extended relatives Henry Sandsness Clara Liebel Lawrence Peterson Lillian Peterson John Eddy Cindy Duane Delores Hanson. Greetings came from Eugene in Prescott Arizona and granddaughter Karense Hanson in Spokane. The couple married May 15 1907 in Livingston and lived near Glasston and Melville before moving to Big Timber in 1942. They have two sons Henry and Eugene and a daughter Mrs. Hanson. son Alvin was killed in 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge.

Poppy Day Set For Saturday in Big Timber
Saturday May 25 marks Poppy Day nationwide in Big Timber and Sweet Grass County. Americans wear crepe poppies to honor fallen soldiers and support disabled veterans and veteran children through the American Legion Auxiliary fund drive. Half of donations aid veterans and half assist veteran children, with local distribution led by Mrs. Harold McLauchlan. Poppies from Fort Harrison were made by disabled veterans and distributed to the public. The tradition started after World War I and the Auxiliary has sponsored poppy distributions since 1921.
