Transient Killed By Train Near Grey Cliff
Frank Lester Roberts 65 was killed Monday night when struck by train No 4 about 200 yards west of the Bert Idland crossing near Grey Cliff. He had been in Big Timber that day and told authorities he was headed to Selfridge North Dakota with a daughter in Eureka California. No inquest planned. His wife and daughter reside in Fortuna California and burial will be here.

Masonic rites for J. W. Kirkwood 81 were held at the Masonic temple in Big Timber. The former under sheriff died in Livingston Friday. Pallbearers included W. K. Amery and six others. honorary pallbearers listed O Nordstrom E L Frang R C Johnson O A Fallang Sr Norman Hale and Sam Cohn. Kirkwood born Oct 8 1869 in Rock Side Canada moved to Minnesota at six months and came to Big Timber in 1899. He served as under sheriff 1909–1914 and led the fire department as chief 1917–1920. He was a director of the old Scandinavian American bank and joined the local Masonic lodge in 1904.

Carl H. Hausserman Dies Suddenly
Carl H. Hausserman 58 former Grey Cliff and Stockade rancher died suddenly at his Absarokee home from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Big Timber Lutheran church. He was born November 25 1891 in Loraville Iowa and moved to Montana in 1899. He married Nora Dunham in Bozeman on December 3 1914 and lived on the homestead 33 years before moving to Absarokee in 1948. He is survived by his widow a daughter a grandson four brothers and a sister plus nieces and nephews.

Billings Contractor Recovering After Highway Shooting
Maynard F. Bean, 47, a Billings building contractor, was found Sunday afternoon seriously wounded from a pistol shot on the highway three miles west of Big Timber. He told Sheriff Walter Osborne he picked up a hitchhiker who robbed him of about 120 and shot him, then drove away in a 1940 Plymouth with a follower in another car. No trace of the assailants or vehicle has been found. Bean had been missing for several days.
