A Reed Point protest decries newspapers and weather reports for misreporting a May snowstorm. Ranchers describe two feet of snow with deep drifts, damaging hay, burying stock, and hindering pasture, arguing the storm brings useless moisture to their harsh losses.
District high school baseball tournament moved to Big Timber Friday and Saturday due to a storm. Wilsall faces Harlowton and Big Timber meets Belgrade Friday at 1 30. Losers play 9 30 Saturday, winners play after.
Relatives report from the army air force that Jene W Carl has again received a plaque as best B-25 specialist in the western division. He served as trouble shooter at San Diego and San Antonio bases over the past year and is making a comeback from 15 months of hospital care for a back injury. He re entered a hospital this week for further treatments.
Winners in Declamation Humorous Oratory Original Oratory and Extemporaneous speaking were announced by Mervin Wertz. Top places included Serious by Sigrid Tollefson and Ronnie Duncan led by district schools Fergus County Big Timber Billings St. Leo Winifred. Debates listed Fergus St. Leo Billings Senior. Teams from St Leo Fergus Lewistown Billings Winifred Big Timber judged by Eastern Montana Normal at Billings.
The Town and Country Home Demonstration club held its sixth meeting of the year on Tuesday May 9 at Mrs Wayne Jones ranch home. Six members attended. Irene White and Francis Nelson led the lesson on Nutrition.
Two Lions International district governors, Robert McIlveen of Innisvale Canada and Dale Davis of Hardin, visited the Big Timber Lions Club meeting at the Big Timber cafe. They spoke on international cooperation, club efforts to aid foreign-born residents, and outlined a toy donation campaign to repair broken toys for children.
Omund Strand and Miss Elea Gaarder spoke to parents and high school students at the Lutheran church about the Lutheran students association in Montana schools and church colleges.

Mrs Sophia Guthrie receives the American Mothers award at a Bridger Creek party in Reed Point Montana with family, out of town guests, and a program of songs prayers and speeches. The club presents a Montana agate brooch and a silver tray from the committee in Billings.
O. B. O Dell for R H Lindsay and Co. secured the high bid at 66 2/3 cents per pound for the 1950 Sweet Grass County Wool Marketing Association wool pool. Six other buyers also bid: Leonard Esp and Frank Costello for Wilkins and Co. Kel ly Hanson for Draper and Co. Punk Ward for Forte Dupee Sawyer Co. W T Robinson for Howell Jones H F McFarlane for Edgehill Lucas and Walter T Foster for Mountain States Wool Co.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Perkins Chapel for Bert Martin 79 a longtime Montana settler who died Thursday at his Harlowton home. Born May 5 1871 in Red Bluff California he came to Montana at age ten with his father driving sheep into the Yellowstone valley. He married Elda Beardslee in 1896 and worked in the sheep business in Forsyth Carbon County before moving to Musselshell 32 years ago. He managed the Bair Co and Winnecock ranches until retiring in 1943. Survivors include his widow two daughters Mrs John Wendstrand Lincoln Nebraska and Mrs Free Crockett Harlowton two sons Armor Butte and Carl Whitehall six grandchildren a brother Chet Wheatland Wyoming and a sister Mrs Ada Thomas Billings.
Mrs J F Clark and Miss Helen McAuslan returned last week from a three weeks trip to New York City.
Final plans announced for the Big Timber Rifle and Pistol Club two day event at the range five miles north of town on highway 19. Registration Saturday 9 a.m. with shooting at 9:30, NRA rules observed. Events include junior matches for ages 12-18, pop-up bear shoot, and Sunday large bore contests at 200 yards with multiple prize categories and the Huidekoper cup trophy for Sweet Grass county shooters. Scoring judges named as Nicholson Hodges Fal ling Sr. Prizes include cash, gear, and a four person camping kit. Refreshments by Boy Scouts both days.
Leo Ray will shoot his best Sunday to retain the Huidekoper trophy shown after last May’s rifle win. Permanent possession goes to the first shooter who wins it three times. The Big Timber Rifle and Pistol club hosts a two day public shoot at the club range five miles north on Melville highway.
An exact Liberty bell replica will be shown in Big Timber on June 21 as part of the Independence Savings Bond campaign opening May 15. The campaign urges May 15 flag displays and bells tolling at noon to honor liberty and democracy. The local Legion is coordinating with schools churches and other buildings to ring bells at the bell appearance time.
The rural interscholastic and track meet postponed by storm will be held Saturday. Registration starts 8:45 at the high school office, events run in the high school auditorium from 9 with a program at 11. Field events scheduled for the afternoon.
A capacity crowd attended the annual music and art festival at the grade school last Friday evening. Joel Story directed the grade school band with numbers by beginners and advanced players. Donna Hunter led the musical program featuring folk songs and student numbers. Mrs. Robert Papke directed the art display, decorations, and stage scenery in the auditorium.
The Bailey Hardware offers entry blanks for the annual Boys Life fish derby. Eligible youths may enter until age 19. Ten divisions include stream trout and perch with prizes in the trout division. Further information is available at Bailey Hardware.
