The American Legion will sponsor a large Big Timber event on July 30 and August 1 with Leo Cremer performing, proceeds to benefit the Legion building fund. Weather and turnout could make it the biggest local affair, with a community “go western” push starting June 1 and beard growing encouraged.
Grace Hanke daughter of E V Hanke and Lawrence D Edwards son of A E Edwards wed at Manito Methodist Church Spokane at 8 p m April 16 Rev Ralph Bolick officiated A reception followed in church parlors Bride a North Central high school graduate works at Old National Bank Edwards studied in California two years in the army air forces and is in business with twin brother Clarence at Kadee Metal Products Out of town guests included Edwards family relatives from Colville Seattle Arlee Billings Big Timber and other listed locations.
The Montana Future Farmers of America join the Big Timber chapter for a May cleanup on farms and ranches. Activities include repairing steps ladders paths tools labeling medicines wiring and lighting clearing debris painting fencing and planting. The program aims for a yearly ongoing effort with broad community involvement.
The Rod and Gun Club directors voted to hold a perch derby on lower Glasston Lake Sunday June 13. Seven prizes will be awarded two for men two for women two for children and a special prize for the most unusual fish. Further details to follow.
Big Timber announces Sunday school at 9 45 and morning worship at 11 with Dr Seth Eastvold president of Pacific Lutheran college speaking Sunday evening. Melville holds Sunday afternoon services May 16 at 2 30.
Sweet Grass County juniors present The Nutt Family a fast moving three act farce by Walter Blake on May 19 at 3 15 p m the Crest dale sanatorium setting hosts the comical Nutts with drama directed by Miss V Dale Cook Cast includes Don Tetlie Ruth Mahlum and others in a romp of mistaken loves and comic chaos presented under Samuel French license.
Thirty members of Zenobia Temple Pythian Sisters attended the district convention at Gateway Temple in Livingston. Helen Durden of Livingston chaired the session with memorial service and exemplified ballot. Ramona Mehlhoff sang, Big Timber provided degree staff for two initiates. Grand Chief Hilda Greenly from Billings attended.
Mrs Mary Lamp spent Sunday visiting Mike Kerins in Livingston, sharing time with acquaintances and extending weekend hospitality in the community setting.
Big Timber sent a large delegation to the Congregational annual conference in Livingston held Tuesday and Wednesday. Eighty three percent of delegates voted to merge with the Evangelical and Reformed church and chosen delegates to the General Council meeting at Oberlin Ohio on June 17. Principal speakers were Rev. Douglas Horton Miss McGuffie and Rev. T F Rutledge Beale. Delegates included Mr and Mrs Will Churchill and local attendees P N Bennett Mrs Ross Williams and others.
Women’s Missionary Federation of the Lutheran church met in Absarokee on Tuesday with delegates from Deer Creek Aid, Big Timber Aid, and Melville unable to attend due to bad roads. Delegates included Mrs. Hans Tjaaland and Mrs. Tom Olson from Deer Creek, plus Mrs. Knute Hogemark and others. Melville delegation was absent.
O J Ellingson attended a Wynward Corporation Philco dealers meeting in Billings. Bertha Gehrke demonstrated freezing techniques for housewives at the Northern hotel ballroom, with a Cornell film shown. Radios and frozen foods were given to attendees. Deer Creek Aid hosts Lutheran fellowship with a new sound projector. children’s comedy and forest service reels shown. Senior League to run June 13 meeting.

Big Timber Chapter 1013 Women of the Moose met at the Moose hall with Susie Magelssen as senior regent. They set meetings for the second and fourth Wednesdays monthly and hosted visitors from Livingston. An initiation occurred for one candidate and Frances Strobel gave two readings. About 30 co workers and 12 Moose members enjoyed lunch served by Wilma Elgen Betty Jarrett and Frances Strobel.

Big Timber hosts a two day celebration July 31 and August 1 featuring Leo Cremer's rodeo and a pony express relay race over a 40 50 mile course. Proceeds go to Sweet Grass post 19 American Legion building fund. Event includes parade buffalo barbecue street dance and top notch local horse and Palomino representation.
Boulder 4 H Club outlined final picnic plans to be held at the Ferguson home during the next meeting in the afternoon. The group met at Leasby schoolhouse at 2 30 Saturday with three members absent and four teachers present. Some projects stalled due to delays in reference books and only the cooking class and poultry project have seen notable progress.
A large crowd gathered at the Wagon Wheel in Grey Cliff Saturday to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hausserman’s silver wedding anniversary. Leonard Esp was toastmaster and gifts were presented. Music by the Elgen boys and Johnnie Lee accompanied dancing. Mrs. Hausserman’s parents, Ike and Mrs. Lay, marked their 54th anniversary the day before and attended. Out of town guests included Delbert Huff and Carlo Absarokee, and others from Broadview Broadview McLeod Columbus Wilsall Billings and more.
Sweet Grass post No. 19 hosts district No. 7 meeting Sunday May 16 with Legion Auxiliary activities. A 1 p.m. tea at Lutheran parish hall leads to business sessions and a 6:30 p.m. banquet by the Pythian Sisters. The parade will feature the new Big Timber drum and bugle corps with out of town units from Livingston and Bozeman.
The Pythian Sunshine Girls hosted a Mother's Day tea Sunday afternoon at Fraternity Hall. A short program was presented by the group and their royal advisor Myrtle Sell. The event featured a lace cloth tea table, a Mother's Day cake centerpiece, pink carnations, and each guest received a pink carnation corsage.
