Seniors To Bozeman For High School Week

Lois Anderson Thea Westre Betty Jean Yost Bill Campbell and Donald Boyd of Sweet Grass County high school attended the annual High School week at Montana State college Bozeman on April 29 30 and May 1 The week used a quota system from the upper third of the class for selection and tests were held at the college Bill Campbell and Donald Boyd led the local group and may compete for scholarships if they enroll at MSU next year.

Immunization Shots To Be Given May 15

Dr B K Kilbourne of the state board of health issued updated immunization guidance for diphtheria and smallpox. Children with no prior diphtheria vaccination should receive three doses three to four weeks apart. those vaccinated 4 5 years ago need a 1 cc booster. Smallpox vaccination can occur concurrently. re vaccination is advised if eight to ten years have passed since a successful take. Diphtheria immunization covers ages 1 to 15. Vaccinations by Dr Baskett and Dr Claiborn will be at the library on Saturday May 15 from 10 to 12 and 2 45 p m.

Newman Sentenced To Three Years In State Prison

Floyd Newman was sentenced to three years at hard labor in the state prison after a Big Timber car theft following his release from county jail. Judge B E Berg also granted a divorce decree to Edna Miller Burrous from Robert L Burrous and awarded custody of a minor child. Additional matters included estates of Michael Ault and Jessie B Arvidson and a decree quieting title in Eva Bouquet versus William Steinke.

JayCees Hear Big Timber Marble Tourney Report

Wayne Babcock summarized the Big Timber marble tournament sponsored by the JayCees and announced Stanley Stenberg as the winner who will represent Big Timber at the state tournament in Great Falls on Saturday. Next week will publish photos of the top three finishers. Scott Hoskinson spoke on a county fair plan. Kenneth Fowell reported on the upcoming state marble tournament in Great Falls. The group will hold a special May 17 meeting to elect new directors.

Melville and Bridge Schools Lead Rural Meet Honors

Melville and Bridge schools dominated the rural interscholastic meet Saturday. Melville scored in scholarship and track events led by Miss Marie Helgeson and Bridge by Mrs. Violet Widdicombe. Relay honors went to Bridge with Dry Creek and Grey Cliff close behind.

Stanley Stenberg Wins JayCee Marble Tournament

Seventh grade Stanley Stenberg defeated Paul Lamp and Elmer Holland in the finals of the JayCee marble tourney at the grade school on Saturday. About a hundred boys and girls competed last week to determine the finalists with two winners from each grade advancing to the Big Timber state marble championship in Great Falls this Saturday.

Thirty-One Women Join Moose Auxiliary

Thirty-one women were inducted into the Ladies of the Moose at ceremonies at the Moose lodge last Thursday evening. About 60 ladies and 15 Moose members from the Livingston lodge attended, including a drill team. Susie Magelssen was elected senior regent with Alice Van der Voort as junior regent and other officers named. The next meeting is planned for Wednesday evening May 12.

Big Timber Grade School Spring Festival Program Itself

The Big Timber Grade School will host its annual spring festival Friday May 7 with an art exhibit in the art room open all day and again at 7 p m. The auditorium program at 8 p m features beginner and advanced bands under Miss Bernice Tronrud and Magda Sundeen directing the rest with Geraldine Neumann as accompanist. The lineup includes traditional American folk songs honoring National Music Week, with numerous grade performances and group choirs from first through eighth grades.
