Next fall's first graders are invited to visit on May 14 from 1 to 3 15 PM to meet teachers and tour the school. Six-year-olds by October 15, 1965 may enroll. The community notes cover a range of local items from staff appointments at Big Timber grade school to rangers meetings, a fine for reckless driving, livestock sales, travel plans, and a bowling tourney results.
Ross Snyder returns from Missoula after a two day Montana fish and game department hatchery personnel meeting. Andy Mlekush of Oie Motor Co. took second in the Oldsmobile winter service sweepstakes competing with 800 managers. he won an AM FM stereo radio.
Ellen Ware and Grace Carney were honored at a dinner by Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and friends from Livingston and Big Timber. Carney retires as county superintendent. Ware retires from Big Timber grade school. Toastmaster Katherine Brockman, anecdotes by Gertrude Conwell and Katherine Douglas.
A Ray Geophysical seismograph crew of about 10 men, led by J. R. Gilliand, will start work Saturday in Big Timber. Roger Hoest, previously here arranging an office, said local workers would be needed. The headquarters will be offices above the Coast to Coast store.
In Big Timber on April 24 at the Lutheran church, Miss Sally Hamlett and John Ronneberg exchanged vows before family and friends. Rev. Ocee Johnson officiated as the couple, daughter and son of local families, pledged their lives. The ceremony featured gladioli and lilies, with a satin and chantilly lace gown, maid of honor Carol Ronneberg, best man Alvin Ronneberg, and a reception in the parish hall. The bride has teaching and local schooling ties. the groom works as assistant cashier at Citizens Bank and Trust. A weeklong wedding trip preceded home in Big Timber. Out-of-town guests traveled from Billings, Wilsall, Bozeman, Laurel, Missoula, Livingston, and Columbus.
Winners of the Jaycee sponsored marble tournament announced Saturday include Elizabeth Standish first in third and fourth graders Nancy Cook first Jerry Rue second Rick Dieterich third and Rusty Raisland first Einar Stone second Rick Henthorn seventh and eighth graders Trophies will be awarded to these winners.
The city doubles championship in the women’s league ended in a Tuesday decision after a first place tie. The crown went to Mrs. Ron Cahil and Mrs. Wayne Reed. They defeated Mrs. Arne Grosfield and Mrs. Forest Keller 1223 to 1130.
Mrs Clara Cudney Sweeney Cudney died at her Grey Cliff home on Monday of last week. Last rites were held Thursday afternoon at the Johnson chapel with music by Mrs A Ronald McDonnell and Mrs Margaret Duh at the organ. Selections included The Old Rugged Cross and Beautiful Isle. Pallbearers were Howard Forsythe Gerald Connelly Fiattum Ervin Overfell John Deegan and Jack Bainter.
New measurements from Monument Peak and Independence report 94 inches of snow with 38 inches of water and 65 inches of snow with 27 inches of water. Runoff is forecast to be the third highest in 30 years, with potential 480 000 acre feet during melt depending on temperature and precipitation.
Mrs. Leroy Schilling 43 of Mc Leod died Tuesday at Community hospital after a long illness with cancer. Funeral services set for 2 p m Saturday at the Big Timber Lutheran church with Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating.
Kurt Peters of Bismarck North Dakota spoke at the T-Bone CowBelle luncheon at Richel Lodge near Red Lodge. He reflected on personal responsibility to others and learning from children, noting the world we build affects our youth. About 40 from Sweet Grass county attended, total 150. Plans were made to support hospitality at the Montana Stockgrowers convention in Billings May 20 21 22. New officers were installed led by Mrs. Kermit Anderson as president and Mrs. Jim Castagne as president elect.
Harold Holen, formerly a high school commercial instructor and last year an instructor at Glen Dive High, is named to the Montana State College Bozeman commercial department faculty. He plans to pursue a master's degree next summer. Mrs. Holen will teach first grade in Bozeman schools. Mrs. Jimmie Holen, visiting her son’s family, met her granddaughter Leslie Schnee born December 1.
Mr and Mrs J E Zimdars and family moved last week to the Burton Robinson ranch near Melville. The property was recently purchased by the Robinsons from Stanley Hanson. Their new grandson Stuart joined them.
Dean K. Hoffman extension family life specialist will speak May 12 at 8 p m at the Dugout for county home demonstration clubs. The talk How to Cope With Tensions is open to all interested county women with Harmony Home club hosting. County Agent Bob Racicot praised Hoffman's engaging group discussion style and urged many women to attend.
Montana State University names Linda Lee Clark of Big Timber as one of the tops in scholastic honor society. Clark, daughter of Mr and Mrs McLean A Glark, is a pathology major and member of a sorority.
The Big Timber Jaycees hosted a district meeting Sunday with 34 members from Bozeman Columbus Absarokee and the local unit attending. Tom O'Brien Bozeman state vice president presided and Jim Bailey Hamilton national director announced his candidacy for state president. Members then joined a Jaycee bowling tournament after the session.
Registration for a hunter safety training course will be at 7 p m at the base rifle range this week led by county chief instructor Goates. The program welcomes youths ages 11 to 12 before the season opens and adults. officials note that in some states completion is required to purchase licenses. Domasco emphasizes reducing accidents through proper gun safety practices. Also mention of travelers Dr and Mrs J L Raney heading to Billings to meet Mrs Raney's mother Mrs Winifred Hunter for her Montana visit.
A Sweet Grass County Soil and Water Conservation District meeting for all forest landowners is set for May 13 at 8 00 at the Dugout. It aims to discuss fire protection for about seven million acres of state and privately owned forest land in Eastern Montana, including 289 000 acres in Sweet Grass. Ranchers can obtain protection through the state forestry board by affidavit, which also enables fire protection payments via the county tax roll. Landowners should bring legal land descriptions when making affidavits.
Yellowstone National Park announces openings for the season with many roads and entrances set to begin service in May. Acting Superintendent James Carpenter notes only the northeast entrance from Red Lodge remains closed, while Beartooth Highway opens around May 30. Facilities will open in stages from May 9 to June 14 with several inns and cabins reopening or starting service.
Howard B Boyles of Laurel died April 26 at Community Hospital. Funeral services were held at Lowry Chapel with John Foote of Billings officiating. Music by Mrs Margaret Busha and Mrs A Ronald McDonnell. Pallbearers were Lloyd Golden Sr and Jr Jack McFate Edward Feller Frank Rowland Bill Ripley. Honorary pallbearers listed. American Legion Post 19 conducted color guard and firing squad. Ralph B Prather chaplain. Lowry served as bugler.
Dr. E. H. Peake of Livingston takes over the old Frank Miller chiropractic office in the Masonic temple building. A 1957 Palmer College graduate born and raised in Livingston, Peake will keep office hours Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays.
