Walt Huffman urges city officials to inspect the dump and exposes ongoing sanitary failures. He notes flies and odors threatening nearby residences, describes a new pit with uncovered animal waste, and questions the city’s handling of waste disposal and road access.
Public Relations Committee of Wilitgro Garden Club and Mrs. Margaret Plaggemeyer and Mrs. Henry Walton praise new town cleanup interest. They urge Big Timber youth to cultivate gardens, propose easy flowers like zinnias marigolds nasturtiums and bachelor buttons, and anticipate a strong Flower Exhibit in August.
An 8 p.m. Informational meeting at the American Legion upstairs hall discusses the Beartooth and Absaroka primitive areas proposed for wilderness designation. Speakers cover study plans, land use, soil surveys, and coordinated resources development under the 1964 Wilderness Act with input from Forest Service leaders and Robert Miller.
The Big Timber Lions Club will hold an all out sale on May 7 to market blind made articles produced in accredited workshops. Proceeds fund tourist brochures, with members delivering products to homes and hopes for strong results mirrored by Lions clubs in other cities.
Montana Fish and Game officials announce a May 1 requirement for new 1969 fishing licenses. The basic Conservation License goes on sale April 30 with residents paying 25 cents and nonresidents one dollar.
The sheriff’s office received numerous calls about a man wearing a purple-tinged outfit entering several downtown businesses around 7 am Saturday. He first tried the bakery doors, then the Grand Hotel for coffee, then Almeda's Cafe, ignored by staff, before authorities took him into custody and moved him to Warm Springs for care.
Eighth grade students from Sweet Grass County will visit Sweet Grass High School Monday May 5 for freshman orientation. Activities begin 8 45 in the hot lunch room with faculty and student guides. They will tour classes register for next year take placement tests in science and math and enjoy refreshments. Parents and students are urged to plan course selection with counselor Robert Hauck.
The Big Timber Jaycees sponsor the annual Grade School track meet at the high school athletic field Friday May 2 starting around 4 10 p m Students from all eight grades have signed up for 66 track and field events Ribbons go to first three in most events four places in the three legged race If weather turns stormy the event will be postponed to the following week
Funeral services for Dr Webster C Lasater 71 were at Franzen Chapel Livingston with Rev Jack Dabner presiding. Burial followed at Columbus cemetery. Survived by widow two daughters one son two sisters two brothers and nine grandchildren. He served as pastor in Montana and Colorado and was a WWI veteran.
Arnold Breck showed his miniature springer spaniel Tiny and won first place in sub-novice showman with 153 of 155 at Yellowstone Valley Kennel Club in Billings. Susan Ellis earned second with 152 as Abby the Bassett took conformation wins in breed and hound classes. Others and scores followed including Gold watchers Cosgriffs and Brekke family attending.
Helen Autry Conrad art consultant and MSU professor will speak at the Big Timber Woman's Club meeting on Monday. She discusses "Today's Creative Need" and is joined by an officer installation and plans for a June luncheon.
The community clean-up day in Big Timber drew large crowds and praised efforts led by the Girl Scouts and Community Improvement Committee. Volunteers, including Brownies and Boy Scouts, cleared debris from city approaches, parks, and campgrounds, with the Jaycees removing old car bodies. The city will offer free debris pickups this week and plans call for annual events.
Robbie Henson, 15, son of Mr and Mrs Claude Henson of Billings, was shot in the chest near a Boulder campground. The wound, caused by an apparently accidental discharge from a .20-20 Winchester, sent him to St. Vincent's Hospital in satisfactory condition. the sheriff's office investigates. Henson is the grandson of Bernice Thomason.
The community chorus meets at 7 30 p m in the hot lunch room but will end early for attendees of the Wilderness meeting at the Legion hall.
The 41st legislature enacts a law shifting plate ownership to the person, not the car, with July 1 rollout. The Montana Highway Patrol will enforce and use plates connected to reassigned vehicles, while questions linger on handling unused plates after a sale or wreck.
A ranch house owned by Mrs. Mary Jo Peterson and occupied by the Tucker family was destroyed by a fire around 11 am, apparently sparked by an oil heater explosion. The incident injured none, though three firefighters narrowly avoided harm from a stray rifle bullet. Donations are being organized to aid the Tuckers and their four children.
Newly elected officers of the Moose Lodge were seated Monday night in installation ceremonies conducted by Dan Laubach installing officer. Funeral services for Lena C. Vork 83 are set for Friday at 2 p m from the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Rev Vernon Vork will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. She was born December 10 1885 in Adell Wisconsin daughter of Jacob De Sota and the youngest of ten. The family moved to Ogelvie Minnesota in 1896. She married Peter Vork of Sandstone Minnesota in 1906. They lived in Sandstone until 1910 then moved to Sweet Grass County and resided on various ranches. In 1942 they moved to Livingston where they lived until Mr Yorks death fourteen years ago. Survivors include five children Florence De Koning Citrus Heights California Mildred Ryan Butte Arthur Vork Auburn Washington Herbert Vork Kent Washington and Rev Vernon Work Pinehurst Idaho plus thirteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.

Sweet Grass County riders and tracksters compete Friday May 2 starting at 1 p.m. at the high school field for awards in individual and team events. Ribbons go to top four in each event and two in relays. A traveling trophy honors overall wins in both A and B divisions.
Clyde Park will receive a new one story post office built by Dennis M. Jones. Win ton M. Blount announced the contract award to the lowest of five bids with initial investment around 18500 dollars. The Post Office will lease the 800 square foot building for eight years with a renewal option through seventeen years and completion planned within six months of plan approval.
