Moose Lodge 1196 hosts the Montana State Moose Association Bowling Tournament from March 20 to April 18 at City Club Lanes. The event expects multiple weekends with 36 teams and 180 singles per weekend, plus a five weekend banquet dance, Sunday breakfasts, and a smorgasbord. Former Resident Shoots Brother in Harlowton Tragedy
Frank Brittain, 30, is jailed without bail in Wheatland County after fatally shooting his brother Dale Brittain, 32, Friday night at their mother's home in Harlowton. The two blasts were fired from a 16 gauge shotgun in front of several witnesses. An inquest was scheduled as County Attorney Gordon Hickman said Brittain's arraignment was expected yesterday.

Patrick J. Deegan, longtime Big Timber figure, dies at 84
Patrick J. Deegan died March 10 at the Pioneer Nursing Home aged 84. He served as Big Timber police chief and water commissioner, later worked for Montana Power Company until 1953, and is survived by his widow, two sons, a daughter, a sister, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Josephs with burial in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers named from Ryegate, Billings, and Big Timber.

The Montana State Moose Bowling Tournament will be held in Big Timber over five weekends with about 500 bowlers. Art Sell and the Moose Lodge organized the event, and 1800 Pioneer copies are distributed weekly reaching about 6120 readers. Local churches invite bowlers to worship during Sunday hours.

The case of Daniel Charles Downs versus the State of Montana is set for Monday March 29 at 9 30 a m in the Sweet Grass County courthouse. The incident occurred December 12 1970 near Big Timber when a firearm was discharged toward eight persons narrowly missing them and striking a vehicle. Attorneys Jim Ropp and Ben Kester of Columbus represent the defendant.

The Morningside College concert band from Sioux City Iowa will give a concert at 8:00 p.m. in the Big Timber High School gym on March 25 as part of a 12 day tour. The 60 piece group will play nine concerts in seven states before returning to Iowa on April 4. Admission is free. The visit includes a community meal and a home stay with local band boosters.
