St Paul March 7 A general wage reduction or maintenance of way employee pay is contemplated by J N Rapelje general manager of the Northern Pacific Notices have been sent to Northern Pacific workers and a conference with northwest road officials and union representatives is expected in St Paul around April 1 to discuss the matter.

Congress Considers Special Session Next Month

President announces a special session of Congress will not occur before April 4 and may occur a week later. Talks with Republican leaders focused on taxation and whether emergency tax legislation or full tax revision should lead the agenda. A further conference will be held after committee canvass to set a definite program.

Montana Pioneer Near Century Mark at 90 Birthday Event

Mrs Laura C Rich one of Montana’s oldest pioneers will be honored at a March 6 birthday party in Livingston. Rich was the first white woman to ex team into Coulson near Billings with her brother. She and her late husband once ran a hotel in the area.

New County Bills Defeated in Montana Senate

Helena March 5. Three new counties voted down despite lobbying as Cruse, Joe Brown and Redwater fell to a adverse committee report. Senator Edwards urged Cruse county inclusion of Cat Creek oil field but failed. The senate then adopted amendments raising county division funding from 4 000 to 26 000 000 and old county valuation from 8 000 000 to 12 000 000.

Washington reports the death of Champ Clark of Missouri a dominant Democratic leader who served 26 years in the House and twice led the party in the chamber He died at his Washington home after a long illness and requested no halt in public business upon his death The House adjourned briefly in his honor and voted his widow a year's salary as memorial action

Thousands pay tribute to Champ Clark in St Louis

Thousands of St Louisans stood in cold rain to honor Champ Clark as his body arrived by special train from Washington. The casket lay in state at city hall until 11 p.m. and was returned to the train for Bowling Green to be buried tomorrow at 2 p.m. Flags were at half mast and bells tolled as the procession moved through the streets.
