Governor urges Montana homeowners to file tax relief forms
Governor Judge warns residents they have two weeks to file for the Homestead Property Tax Relief Act. Limited dog licenses in Big Timber despite numbers
The Big Timber Veterinary Clinic reports only about 65 dogs hold 1977 licenses as of last week. Licenses became legally required May 1, with unaltered dogs costing 10 dollars and altered dogs 5 dollars. Rabies vaccination proof is required. Roaming without an owner is illegal and the licensing aims to control rabies.

Big Timber NRA Rodeo Set for July 1–2
The NRA approved rodeo returns to Big Timber July 1 and 2 with 5:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. start times, drawing 300 to 400 contestants. Events include bareback riding, broncs, calf roping, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, girls breakaway, and barrel racing. County Officials Return From State Convention
Sweet Grass County will receive about 143000 dollars in lieu of taxes in September. The amount was reported by County Commissioners after the Montana Association of Counties 68th Annual Convention held in Kalispell June 12 to 15. They noted funds may be used to lower county taxes with no restrictions on use for federal lands. chair Bjarne Bjorndal warned funds would be cut off if not used wisely. Additional topics included a state hazardous waste disposal plan, a potential 50 percent electricity curtailment, drought impacts with reservoirs possibly drying up, and state and federal drought aids. Delegates discussed a unified county bookkeeping system and legislative actions, including multiple use concept in national forests and addressing inequities when counties pay for state services. Attending were Bjorndal, Ray Esp, and Clark Engle who served as voting delegate.

Big Timber Library Sees 1977 Early Use Rise
The Big Timber Carnegie Library reports 4 320 patron visits and 9 780 circulated items from January to May 1977, a 50 percent rise over last year. Librarian Edna Goosey and Library Board member Jane Grosfield presented a 14 466 dollar budget for 1977 78 with added cataloging hours.

Timber fire reported near Big Timber
A timber fire report from Bar B Ranch north of Big Timber prompted a late Monday alert. Fire crews scoured Dry Creek canyon but found no active flames as darkness hindered the search. Chief Dennis Beer said lightning can ignite damp wood with smoke seen earlier and suspects a struck stump with wet ground stopping spread. It remained unclear whether the fire affected forest service land or private property.

BB Shot Injures Visitor in Big Timber Incident
M A Wynn of Pittsfield Massachusetts was struck in the neck by BB pellets while passing through Big Timber on June 13 en route to the Air Stream Rally in Bozeman. Several juveniles took part and Deputy Tyler Molzahn notes a city ordinance bans BB gun shooting within city limits.
