Youth Rodeo Opens Summer Season at Fairground Arena

Community notices announce the Jaycee sponsored Youth Rodeo at the Fairground arena this Saturday and Sunday marking the first rodeo event of the 1977 summer season. Water use questioned by Big Timber residents at council meeting

City officials quoted 2,000,000 gallons entering the reservoir daily, averaging 1,176 gallons per person, far above the 150 gallons per person per day cited by authorities. Mayor Oscar Stephens warned of fire risk and costs, urging conservation and the city to install 6 meters at no cost to residents to gauge actual usage.

City imposes dog confinement ordinance next Thursday

The new animal control law requires owners to confine dogs to their premises starting June 16. Violations incur fines up to 25 dollars for a first offense, 50 for a second, and 100 for a third. impoundment and license fees apply if tags are missing. The Council also plans to hire an interim dog catcher pending federal funding.

Tax relief deadline nears for state property relief

County Assessor Marvin Barber notes the deadline to file is June 30. About 460 owners in 170 S. G. County have completed the relief form. total eligible owners unknown. Relief applies only to owner residents filing at the County Assessor's office to receive relief on the first 5000 valuation of state property taxes.

Sheep grazing debate in Sweet Grass County trip

Dale Oberly and Congressman Marlence aide Clancy Rich joined an eleven member group in Sweet Grass County to inspect grazing issues. Forest Supervisor Roger Siemens said two trails Sheep Creek and Copper Creek may reopen with alternate year use, amid disputes over land impact and timing for sheep drives.

SGHS trustees take option on land

SGHS Board of Trustees approved an option to purchase about 20 acres west of the current athletic field for a new high school. The $80,000 land price would allow 180 days to decide. $100 was paid to hold, with engineering studies and soil tests underway.

Grade School tuition policy set at Big Timber Grade School

The Big Timber Grade School board approved a tuition policy on June 9 setting ten dollars per month or ninety dollars per year. Kindergarten tuition is half that amount for half-day students. A tuition agreement will be kept at the principal’s office. The tuition committee report by Alexander and Arneson was read and approved. Absent trustee Linda Johnson conveyed agreement by letter. One out of district student contract for next year was approved.

Chamber of Commerce Set for June 23 Meeting

The Sweet Grass County Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly meeting on June 23 with the noon session at Frye's Cafe for the election of officers. Area businessmen ranchers and interested persons are urged to attend.
