Funeral services for Irene Katherine Rohrback Hereim 21 were held at Big Timber Lutheran Church with Rev. Lyle Onstad officiating. Burial was at Mountain View. She was born August 6 1924 in Medina North Dakota and died at Chico hospital last Wednesday. She and Andreas Hereim had lived in Billings Benbow mines Twedot Harlowton Melville and near Melville. Survived by husband two sons a daughter and her parents noted.

Cooke City Highway Opens Amid Beartooth Route
The Red Lodge Cooke City scenic highway opened on Saturday with heavy trucks using the route and tourists reporting good road conditions. Snowdrifts were cleared from switchbacks starting June 1 by volunteers, then by the public roads department under National Park Service orders. Local funding came through Congressman Wesley A. O Ewart and the Red Lodge Civic and commercial clubs.

Fathers With 21 Months Service To Be Returned
The War Department ordered the return from overseas of draftee fathers with 21 months or more of service and allowed commanders to discharge surplus draftees over 21 months. The move aims to avoid delaying demobilization and to keep ships sailing. Senate Votes to Curtail OPA Powers and End Price Controls
Washington June 13 A ram pant senate passed a bill slashing the OPA to a shadow of wartime power and removing price ceilings on meat eggs milk butter and chickens. The 53 to 11 vote extends the agency for one year beyond June 30. It now goes to the house which has a different but unacceptable price control bill. A conference committee is expected to reconcile differences.

Stanley Burton Rand 46 of 3204 Fourth Avenue Billings died at a local hospital at 1 03 p m Thursday of a gall bladder ailment He had entered the hospital Saturday afternoon Rand came to Billings three and one half months ago from Big Timber where he had lived since 1921 He was born May 3 1900 at Waterville Maine During World War I he served three years as a fireman first class with the navy He married Lucy Evans at Livingston on November 11 1921 Surviving are his widow four sons Clifton Evans Rand of Box Elder Pvt Charles Edward Rand of Buckley Field Denver Stanley Burton Rand Jr and Milton Yule Rand both at home one daughter Mrs James Wood of Box Elder and one brother Clifton Rand of Maine Funeral services were held Tuesday at Smiths funeral home The Rev T F Rutledge Beale pastor of First Congregational church officiated Francis M Smith Jr sang Rock of Ages and Abide With Me accompanied by Mrs Ernest E Wild Pallbearers were Chester Bedd es C R Bender Elzie Cubbison John Lesser C H Reiker and Paul Smith Burial was in Mountview cemetery

Major Edward Bowes Dies at 71 in New Jersey Estate
Major Edward Bowes longtime entertainment figure and host of the radio Amateur Hour died at his Rumson New Jersey estate. He would have turned 72 tomorrow and had been in failing health recently. He retired 13 months ago and had traveled from New York City with his niece Mrs. Harry J. Byrne and sister Mrs. Ethel Bowes Smith by his side.
