Mrs Andrew Hereim Dies After Childbirth
Mrs. Andrew Hereim, 21, mother of three, died Wednesday at Chico hospital from childbirth complications. Her baby was born Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Paul Van Cleve ranch near Melville. Survived by husband, baby, daughter Sharon Ann 3½, son Gerald A. 1, parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rohrback, sister Mrs. Harold Smith, and brothers Allen and Raymond Rohrback of Billings. The plan limits accrual to 120 days, pays in cash at discharge base pay rate plus at least 70 cents per day, with 15 million service members eyed to receive about 250 dollars on average. Paul Van Cleve Jr purchased a bull and six heifers from the Comprest Hereford herd at the Bar Thirteen ranch near Sheridan Wyoming. The bull sold for 1550 dollars and the six heifers brought 775 500 400 600 400 and 385 dollars. Top bull went to Ralph Wright and Son of Raton New Mexico for 4000 dollars and the top cow to a South Dakota buyer for 2500 dollars. Buyers from the west attended with cattle reaching Illinois. The Melville group hosted open house and a barbecue before attending the Sheridan purebred Hereford association dinner. They returned home yesterday.

Clifford M. Reed, a marine corps veteran and former Wake Island prisoner, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Heywood Daly in Melville during a 90 day furlough. He recently re enlisted for three years and is stationed at the naval ordnance depot in Pocatello Idaho after a hospital stay in Oakland California. Reed, a former Sweet Grass county resident, recounts the harsh captivity after Wake Island fell on December 22 1941 and his subsequent transfer to Japan where prisoners endured severe conditions.

Bernice Tronrud of Big Timber earned a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University at the forty ninth annual commencement in Missoula on June 10. Ralph S. Kneiland, Big Timber, earned a master’s degree in education completed by end of summer school last year. The spring class included 84 bachelor’s and six master’s degrees with 12 honors graduates. Forty-six others earned degrees earlier that year. Chancellor George Selke spoke at the 1946 ceremonies closing four days of graduation festivities.

CPA Official Says Withholding of Goods From Market Inevitable
Morris Verner, head of CPA compliance, warned that wide withholding of clothing and other goods from markets until July 1 is likely due to price control bill uncertainty. An anonymous OPA official said price ceilings on major items will stay until Congress acts, delaying removal of controls on crude oil gasoline and machinery.
