At the June 7 meeting 87 residents petitioned the city council to pursue stronger controls on teen drinking and reckless driving. They proposed stricter policing of teen dances, possible curfew reinstatement, and emphasize parental responsibility over reliance on new ordinances.
A district court jury deliberated about an hour and a half Friday before a verdict for defendant Edna Jarrett in a damage suit by Paul L. Van Cleve III and his daughter Carol. Plaintiffs sought 12084.42 for injuries from an auto motor bike crash at Fourth Ave and Harris St on March 29, 1963 injuring Carol.
Sweet Grass county was among the first eight to reach the set goal in the Cancer Crusade. The campaign raised 961.56 plus 280 for memorials, totaling 1241.56. General chairman was Mrs. Roger Whidden and memorial chair was Mrs. Ed Holmberg.
To wed Mr and Mrs John B Robinson of Alexandria Virginia announce the engagement of their daughter Judith Lynn to Richard L Hager son of Mr and Mrs John Hager of Big Timber Miss Robinson a graduate of Francis C Hammond high school is employed by AB W Transit Co and the Alexandria hospital Mr Hager a graduate of Sweet Grass county high school attended Montana State college before joining the Naval Air Corps Upon discharge in March the couple plan to move to Montana where Mr Hager will complete his education at Montana State college a October wedding is planned.
The Big Timber Redlegs opened the 1965 season with losses to Livingston Pirates and Harlo, 54 and 101. Chuck Hauge struck out 11 in the Pirate game, homered, but the Redlegs were outhit 7-3. Rain wiped out the Harlo game in the fifth, and the midget game was canceled. About 27 boys participate on Pee Wees and Midgets, paying a dollar for insurance and a uniform deposit. Next games list Livingston Cubs, Gardiner doubleheader, and a June schedule ending with Clyde Park and Indians matchups.
Kathleen Bennage of Gillette and Pat Pederson of Big Timber Montana married at First Baptist Church Gillette on May 29 in a double ring ceremony. Rev L H Sandberg officiated with Mrs Donald Dickey at the organ and sang Because and The Lord's Prayer. The bride wore an organza gown with Chantilly lace and a detachable train, veil, and a cascade bouquet.
Jim Hart of Pocatello Idaho won $558.40 for steer wrestling and led money winners at the Jaycee rodeo in Big Timber Montana. The event drew 149 cowboys with 3 000 spectators despite rain, stock from Kohrs Rodeo Co and Montana win in bull riding calf roping and saddle bronc while Idaho took bareback and steer wrestling.
Livingston Daniel Clifford Brown twenty of Underwood North Dakota died late Friday afternoon while swimming in Hunters Hot Springs. Coroner Jack Davis and Undersheriff Ken Meigs ruled out drowning and said suffocation from vomit lodged in Brown's throat caused the death. Brown hitchhiked from Columbus to Hunter's and walked from the highway to the resort. He swam briefly then rode an innertube and played with two children before distress. The children described him grabbing for their hands and slipping under in five feet of water. Tom Melin and Harold Johnson pulled him out and administered artificial respiration. Firemen Ed Yugovich and Phil Polillo with sheriff's officials arrived at the scene.
The seventh annual Montana AAU open horseshoe pitching tournament will be at Big Timber city park Saturday and Sunday in June 1920. Ed Holmberg says events include singles and doubles with six A to F classes and eight teams per doubles class. Qualifying rounds start 8 am Saturday. finals include doubles at 3 pm Saturday and singles at 8 am Sunday. trophies for top three in each class with Class A winner advancing to national finals.
Margaret Sheen was crowned queen of the 1965 rodeo amid the annual Jaycees event. Contestants paraded on the Jayceen float. winners and sponsors contributed to the grade school milk program, with funds enabling continued milk service in 1966. Donors included Timber Tops and several civic groups, totaling 329.45 dollars.
The city council gives the sheriff Kenneth Thompson and deputies full authority to arrest and enforce Big Timber ordinances. They will patrol within city limits using city police cars to promote traffic law compliance and safety for residents and visitors.
Over the weekend Mr and Mrs Earl Harris of Billings and Earl’s brother and sister Jerry and Joan Harris from Mills Wyoming visited the home of Mr and Mrs Eivind Lemeland.
John Kremper was fined $40 for reckless driving, $10 for driving without a license, and $6 for a driver's examination test after a collision on McLeod Street involving a car owned by Miles Eik of Bikings. The Elk car sustained $125 damage and Weidinger Jr.'s car $200 to $300.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Racicot were summoned to Silver Star south of Whitehall on Monday by the death of Mrs. Racicot’s uncle John Woods who raised her. They will return Thursday for the funeral services.
Vogue's Rogues led decorated fancy floats while T-Bone CowBelles topped western floats and Grey Cliff Hill tied for 4-H. Sara Gust won the bicycle division. Ceryl O'Leary was the oldest cowboy. Nancy Payne the youngest.
Neil D. Hazel of Roberts on leave from the Army and a young woman companion escaped injury when Hazel drove off the airport road Saturday night. He attempted to regain the road by driving toward the bank but overshot the aim and landed in an irrigation ditch.
Philip L. Moulden son of Mr and Mrs Robert L Moulden of Canoga Park California and Nancy Ann Christianson daughter of Mrs Maureen D Christianson of Reseda California were married Saturday afternoon May 29 at the Chapel on Topanga Canyon Chatsworth California The ceremony was in the presence of immediate families and a small group of relatives and friends After a short honeymoon the couple returned to Tarzana California Both work for Rocketdyne Corp in Northridge Philip is a grandson of Mr and Mrs Lyman Moulden of Big Timber.
