Washington May 29 Chester Bowles authorized retail price ceiling hikes for milk by 1 cent per quart and for butter about 11 cents per pound with cheddar cheese rising around 6 cents. He said housewives will face the higher costs in early June and outlined further controls and production incentives to sustain dairy output amid potential subsidy cuts.

Mabel Emily Slough 69 sister of Mrs. William Nevin of Big Timber died May 19 at her daughter’s home in Polson with nine of ten children and Mrs. Nevin present. Burial was in Columbus beside her husband Edward Slough who died in 1944. Slough born 1876 in Westmore Vermont, endured early widowing and moved from Melville to Columbus then Billings, Polson. Survived by six sons Alyn Wright Charles Slough Dewey Slough Edward Slough Jack Slough and three daughters Laura Hill Carolyn Herbert Mildred Chippendale.
