Opinion on land value and advertising in Sweet Grass County
A Utah reader reflects on Big Timber land, noting the high price of raw land but strong interest due to advertising. He argues Montana’s irrigation prospects attract settlers, Idaho’s publicity boosts demand, and expects gradual occupancy of arable land as awareness grows. He believes the region will attract more settlers over time, though slower than elsewhere.
Long Dispute Settled Over Railroad Wage Increases
Arbitrators under the Erdman act settled a dispute involving about 27 000 enginemen on forty nine trunk lines west of Chicago. Wages were raised retroactively to the start of the year with increases for firemen on passenger, freight and yard services, plus per mile and per day hikes for various engine crews. The decision averted a threatened strike and named the commissioners William Lea Chambers W R Stewart and Timothy Shea. Separately, recent heavy rains caused flooding and damage to the Bailey Clark irrigation canal and ditch near Otter Creek.
