The Big Log, a 24 foot long 7 foot diameter Douglas fir weighing over 22 tons, leaves Portland on a 4500 mile goodwill trek through 22 states and 28 cities. Oregon Junior Chamber sponsors the journey, with stops for official receptions, and the log will later appear as the Oregon State float in Atlanta.

Beard growing contest hints at Big Timber rodeo
Visitors are told a big event is brewing in Big Timber with Jaycees and Ropin' n Ridin' club members growing beards in preparation for the July 9 10 rodeo. Memorial Day Service Held by American Legion
The American Legion held its annual Memorial Day parade and services Monday morning. National Guard and Boy Scouts joined the procession with Rev. E. Brentwood Barker giving the invocation. Roy Snyder spoke at the Legion hall and Col. Wallis Huidekoper led ceremonies and oversaw the parade. Military rites were offered at Mountain View cemetery and flowers floated on the Yellowstone in tribute to fallen servicemen at sea.

New Veterinarian Locates Here in Big Timber
Dr. James W. Jackson, graduate of Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine, will begin practice as a general practitioner June 18 in Big Timber. He comes from Bozeman Veterinary Clinic where he worked with Drs. Newhall and McChesney for a year. The Jackson family, including three daughters, will reside at 101 Everett. He previously lived in Helena during naval service in Washington state.

About 68 friends and relatives gathered Sunday at the Elgen home near Grey Cliff to honor Phillip and his wife on their 25th wedding anniversary. The event featured a four tier cake and a silver chest gift from the group. Their three sons Raymond Dennis and Adrian attended, with Raymond in Texas and Adrian recently graduating. The couple wed May 31 1930 at Van Hook North Dakota.

Gene Spilde Reaches Wisconsin After Mother's Death
Gene Spilde travels to Deerfield Wisconsin last week upon the death of his mother aged 81. She was mother to 14 children, nine sons and five daughters, all surviving. Gene was accompanied by his brother Louis Spilde of Jordan. they returned Monday.

Geological Survey maps Yellowstone valley topographic features
The U S Geological Survey plans summer field work to map about 900 square miles of the Yellowstone valley between Big Timber and Columbus under supervisor Wallace R. Calvert with Kenneth D. Cox directing Columbus operations. The project, part of a national program to map the United States, uses 1 to 24 000 scale with 20 and 10 foot contours and will include drains, settlements, roads, pipelines, landmarks and timber cover.

Former resident dies after operation
Mrs. Inga Dodgson of Butte a native of the Melville community died in a Butte hospital Sunday after an operation. She was born near Melville and attended Basin Creek school. Survivors include her husband Sherman Dodgson a sister Mrs. Ida Moore of Seattle and two brothers Otto Hoyem of Seattle and Johnny Hoyem of Wisall.

Augustana Academy Choir to Sing at Big Timber Church
The Augustana Academy a cap pella choir directed by M M Madson performs June 9 at 8 p m in Big Timber Lutheran Church. The fifty five member group of high school youth will sing classical and modern selections across three parts including Bach and Christian sen works. The choir recently began a spring tour and a five week west coast trip ending at the International Young People’s convention in San Francisco. A free will offering benefits the choir.
