Grace Carney notes in 1960 61 rural school nurse report that 17 of 18 county schools participated. Two visits per school oriented teachers, started health records, and performed vision and doctor exams for first graders. Hearing tests and health education were emphasized for older students.
A roster from Justice Court lists individuals with minor traffic offenses and fines. Names include Larry H Ferguson Saco Riley E Doore Melville Diane F Gibson Phillip R Ashley Perris Fran cis W Golger Livingston N Linden berg Miles City Chas H Cruise Billings Orville F Willharst Alexandria Nancy J Francis Wilsall David Fahner Missoula Frank Trum by Miles City Dennis Sandage Joe G Lewis Billings Daniel R Wiggins Seattle Ray L Boe Billings Emmet D Gibson and others with fines ranging from 10 to 50 dollars for violations such as no driver's license speeding and defective signals.
Mrs. Ethel Manis aged 78 died of a cerebral hemorrhage at Browning after becoming ill on a trip to northern Montana with her son-in-law and daughter. Survivors include four daughters and one son Paul J. Manis of Shelby. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church with burial in Mountain View.
Prince Albert Saskatchewan authorities say Robert Sando, Helena elementary supervisor for the Montana department of education, and three Canadians drowned while fishing on Dove Lake 120 miles north of Prince Albert. Two survived as one boat capsized and a second overturned. Victims include Shirley Powers Bob Miller and Eric Thompson of Prince Albert. Sando served since 1958 and previously led Washington Elementary in Glendive. He was in his early 40s, survived by his widow and three children.
The Ways and Means committee of the T Bone CowBelles organized activities for the State Junior Angus Field Day on June 18 at Fair View ranch. They will sell Sloppy Joe burgers coffee doughnuts and coffee 9 am to 12 noon and serve a potluck dinner at noon. A prize Treasure Steaks will go to the oldest father present. Committee includes Mrs Kermit Anderson chair Mrs Howard Hanson Mrs Mabel Harper and Mrs Nat Clark.

Miss Jaycee Sissel Oiestad, daughter of Mr and Mrs Sverre Oiestad, will compete in the Miss Big Timber Pageant this summer as Miss Jaycee. At 18 she graduated from SGHS this spring and plans to major in elementary education at Western Montana College in Dillon. She seeks scholarships for her future career. She has dark blonde hair blue eyes stands five feet six inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.
Miss Helen Rein and Miss Gloria Bee were chosen for Spurs at Montana State college. Spurs select thirty freshmen women yearly for scholarship, activities, attitude and leadership. The organization began at Montana State in 1922 and now has national chapters. Spurs uphold traditions and guide student life under college rules.
Miss Linda Joanne Warp and Lloyd James Berg united in a double ring ceremony at Big Timber Lutheran Church. Rev. Ocee Johnson officiated before 175 guests with organist Miss Oddlaug Stone and soloist Miss Gloria Bee. The bride wore a white nylon lace Empire gown and carried pink roses atop a white lace Bible. Reception followed in the parish hall with pink and white decor.
Big Timber hosts Crazy Wild West Days June 89 10 with a weekend of sales and events. A big prize giveaway on McLeod Street Saturday at 4 pm includes boots hats Levi jeans and rodeo tickets. Drawings at 3 pm require winners to be present for 4 pm drawings. The rodeo finale caps the Sweet Grass county weekend.
Sweet Grass Farm Bureau President Morris Tronrud Jr. denounces F A to E in a meeting talk. He questions who pays for federal aid and warns it brings government influence over curricula and school operations while citing Kennedy policy pressure and a segregated state example. Continued on page two.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Benson of Bremerton Washington arrived Saturday for a visit with Mrs. I Espe, the mother of Mrs. Benson, during their stay in town.
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Bruffey were feted at a Wednesday potluck at the Lutheran parish hall marking 25 years of marriage. Attendees included Rev. Ocee Johnson and several local families. gifts of a silver purse were presented. The couple wed May 24, 1936, at the Big Timber Lutheran church and have a daughter, Mrs. James Marchwick of Bozeman. Ward Bruffey is a rural schoolteacher at Rapstad.
Ten Big Timber couples attended the Montana Junior Chamber of Commerce state convention in Great Falls where three Big Timber candidates won state offices and Starr earned top speaking honors. The group backed anti federal aid resolutions and prepared to push them at the national Jaycee convention in Atlanta. Campaign activity filled the Rainbow hotel with posters balloons and signs.
Mrs Addie D Lowry 83 longtime resident of Big Timber died in her sleep Friday. She taught in Minnesota and Montana before marrying John A Lowry in 1910. Survivors include son Dean and sister Mrs Albert Wagner. Funeral conducted at Lowry Chapel with Lutheran service and music. Stores closed for service.
The Montana Shorthorn Breeders association schedules its annual meeting at 11 a.m. June 3 in Billings with elections for president, vice president, secretary and a three year director. A field day picnic follows June 4 at Lovely Ranch near Wilsall with judging and type demonstrations by Montana State College staff. Future Farmers of America 4 H and junior members invited. Shorthorn beef on menu. Sale in Billings set for October 19 and 20.
