Moose Lodge Is State Champion at Glendive Convention
The Big Timber Moose Lodge won the State Championship Lodge honor at the 46th annual State Moose Convention in Glendive July 15 17. It marks the lodge first 25 year history victory based on membership gain assets and civic affairs. Wayne Reed Gil Lake and Tope Strobel represented the lodge. Wayne Reed was named Montana Moose Association top Governor and Gil Lake was named Star Secretary.

Softball League Opens With High Scoring Win
The men’s softball league began last Thursday as Team A edged Team B 17 to 16 in extra innings at City Park. Next game Tue Jul 27 at 8 p.m. features Team B vs Team C.
Big Timber Rodeo Planned for August 8 at Fairgrounds
The Big Timber Jaycees announce the annual rodeo set for Sunday August 8 at the Sweet Grass County Fairgrounds. A noon Western parade on Main Street precedes the event and is sponsored by the Moose Lodge. Reg Kesler of Rosemary Alberta and Missoula Montana will produce the RCA approved rodeo featuring bareback saddle bronc bulldogging calf roping and more.

Uncertainty Among Local Draft Eligible Youth
Mrs Montana Keller executive secretary of the Sweet Grass County Draft Board says congressional impasse over extending induction authority creates uncertainty among area draftees. She notes the board will continue to register classify and order pre induction physical exams for men who may be needed to fill draft calls in coming months.

Redlegs Triumph in League Play and Tourney Preparations
The American Legion Redlegs beat Livingston Pirates 13-6 in the final league game, earning 2nd place with an 11-7 record. Big Timber hitters collected 12 hits including a first-season homer by Jim Graham. In a weekend doubleheader against Columbus, scores were 15-4 and 23-9 as Redlegs showcase strong offense and defense. The team prepares for the Livingston league tournament starting July 28 with games at 5 and 7 pm.

Last Rites for Theodore Kercheval
Theodore Kercheval received last rites Saturday at 2 p.m. from Lowry Funeral Home with Rev. William Wohlers of the Evangelical Free Church officiating. Mrs William Cremer Jr. sang Abide With Me and Beautiful Isle. Deborah Lowry played organ. Pallbearers were George Lavold Sylvester Lavold Herman Smith Al Mehus Karl Bryan and Bjarne Bjarndal. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery. Born September 6, 1889 in Nashville Tennessee he had lived in the Big Timber area for many years.

Parachutists to Entertain at Big Timber Rodeo Show
An aerial trio led by Bruce Travis with 150 jumps plans two public jumps at the Big Timber Rodeo on August 8. Frank Walter, Dale Lacher, and George Meinzinger bring 120 to 400 jumps each and MSU affiliations. They will exit a Cessna 180 at 7500 feet for a three man hook up and star maneuver with smoke trails if permitted by the FAA.
