Delphi, a Palomino mare owned by J. K. Gustafson of Havre, was named grand champion mare for the third straight year at the Montana Palomino Exhibitors Association show in Livingston. Nugget Monroe, owned by Art Muller of Frannie, Wyoming, captured grand champion stallion. Arabigo Plumare, owned by R. H. Eurich of Melville, repeated as reserve champion stallion, with Silken Pride, owned by Mrs. J. R. Mathes of Miles City, taking reserve champion mare. Judge Clifford Mortenson of Mesa, Arizona praised the Palomino type and urged exhibitors to take top horses to national fairs. Continued on page six.
The Crazy Mountain Jamboree, a western novelty with words by Audrey Gibson and music by Bernice Paisley, was published by United Music Inc of Pittsburgh. A limited run will be sold in Big Timber, with radio airing from Pittsburgh and a runner up finish in a Boston Post contest. Artwork on the cover by Doris Fogler, sales by Mrs Loftsgaarden’s Girl Scout troop at 35 cents.
Mrs. C J Elgas returns from a six week visit with son-in-law and daughter in Big Rapids Michigan and a Wisconsin brother. Chester Irvin Simpson and Violet Thompson of Big Timber wed by Justice C A Bishop with Mrs Fred Thompson and Mrs Delia F Close as witnesses. Redeo weekend guests include R F Coldeen and children Pearl and Raymond and Ethel Van Horn of Spokane. Families of Beckens a reunion today with Mrs Coldeen Mrs White Mrs Montie Riter Mrs Erickson and Hubert Becken.
The Police Department and the Sheriff's Office urge Big Timber citizens and homeowners to use reasonable care through July 31 and August 1. The Sheriff's Office serves as headquarters for law enforcement and all calls should be directed there.
Airport traffic rises with 45 planes registered last month as Manager Walt Huffman notes gains. A new city-county airport committee was named to terms up to four years including C. E. Smart and H. L. Brockway. Various family travel, rodeo plans, pool work, services, and local notices fill the community page.
Rev J H Ingram missionary and world traveler conducts services at the Church of God Sunday and four weeknights with screenings of Palestine travel films. He has made three world tours visiting about 100 foreign countries and colonies and served 28 years in the ministry.
Last rites for Pvt. Alvin Sandsness son of Mr and Mrs James Sandsness killed in action in Belgium on January 29 1945 will be conducted from the Lutheran church Friday afternoon at 2 30 with Rev E E Tollefson officiating. Sweet Grass post No 19 American Legion will conduct full military services interment will be in Mountain View.
Plans are in place for the Big Timber Frontier Days and Cremer rodeo weekend. Reserved seats go on sale, the Pony Express race and 35 mile relay draw entries, and a large parade with drum corps and Eagles auxiliary are planned. An army air show, band concert, street dance, and rodeo parade wind up a packed program with meals provided by the Legion Auxiliary and extensive food supplies prepared for visitors.
Funeral services for 58 year old Mrs Gust J Kirchner were held at the Lutheran church with Rev E E Tollefson officiating. Interment was in Mountain View. She was born August 8 1889 in Egg Harbor Wisconsin and died July 17 at her home. Survivors include husband Gust J Kirchner three children Ludwig Burmeister Gust J Kirchner and Cecil Braley eight grandchildren a niece and nephew and four sisters.
Richard Raymond Conley of Portland Oregon paid a $15 fine after a speeding arrest in town. The sheriff's office handled the arrest. Judge B E Berg signed an order releasing Charley Rice to Vermilion County Illinois Sheriff John L Supple after Rice waived extradition for car theft case.
