Upper Boulder Area Still Closed to Fishing

Military Rites for Pfc Mason Held by American Legion
Full military rites for Pfc. Douglas H. Mason son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mason were conducted by Sweet Grass Post No 19 at Mountain View with Rev. Wallace Bristol and Dr. B Olness. Mason died April 9 1944 from wounds on Biak Island. He was 25 and survived by his parents a sister Mrs Wright Ewan and brother Robert Charles who also died on the same date.

Local Horses Take Honors at Great Falls Show
Sweet Grass county horses starred at the Great Falls event with John Madill’s mare Baby Star sweeping conformation and overall title. Milo Westervelt rode Baby Star to the feature race victory while Spike Van Cleve’s Peep O’Day earned multiple thirds in classes. George Morey’s Senator McGee and Paul Van Cleve’s Peggy placed in the quarter horse race with a 26 second time. Arvid Larson noted Sweet Grass County’s top quarter horses in the region.

Olmstead Wins Close State Senate Contest Over Duncan
Senator Leon C. Olmstead edged Jesse C. Duncan by three votes in the only local contested office after Gibson returns. Olmstead led by two points after six precincts and gained one more in Gibson. All other county races were uncontested. Brockway received 46 write-in votes for county commissioner but did not qualify for the ballot.
