The Board of Equalization in Big Timber Montana on July 15 1907 raised the county assessment by about 12000 to adjust entries from the assessor. Protests were scheduled for July 29 with notices mailed to taxpayers detailing each proposed increase and requiring appearance before the board.

Beautiful gavel presented to K of P Lodge
H Bliss received a walrus tusk carved gavel from W Y Fisher, once of Big Timber, now mining in Nome Alaska, to present to the local K of P lodge. The handle shows a walrus head and Nome in gold, and the face bears the lodge emblem with two gold nuggets. Fisher notes it is the most artistic piece seen.

Northwestern Plans Coast Line Through Montana Route
A dispatch from Butte dated July 19 to the Helena Record reports that Northwestern’s coast line is near. Marvin Hughitt, president, surveys from Bell Fourche Dakota and plans a westward route through Montana with grading starting north of Bell Fourche. Competition with Milwaukee over rapid city lines boosts efforts to reach the coast first. Casper branch as main line is denied.

Edward Pierce Taken to Warm Springs Insane Asylum
Edward Pierce an Irish native was examined by Drs J H Moore and A P O Leary and found insane. He has shown erratic behavior including walking barefoot to Big Timber, damaging Grey Cliff railway station windows, and was restrained and jailed before commitment to Warm Springs asylum. He arrived in the country from Balhnakara Clare Ireland about eighteen months ago and has lived nearby six months.

Delegates Named for State Firemen's Convention
Mayor John I. Asbury has appointed H C Pound BE O Clark A G Yule and Chief J P Clark as delegates to the state fireman convention in Hamilton from August 27 to 30. About 150 delegates from across the state will attend. Big Timber hopes to host next year and water works installation should aid the city’s firefighting interests.

Lineman Loses Two Fingers in Livingston Wire Accident
Clyde Anderson, lineman for Home Telephone Co., was severely burned while firing a pole in Livingston last week. A live electric light wire touched the pole, causing burns to one hand and the other hand to lose two fingers after amputations. He fell to the ground during the incident.
