Assessor Jarrett reports Sweet Grass County total valuation excluding railroads at 83 691 056, up 428 124 from last year, driven by real estate and improvements. Stock sheep increase adds 105 576 in value, range horses rise 11 530, work horses up 33 545, yearling cattle up 3 820, while stock cattle fall 28 752 and mortgages shrink by more than half.
The Board of Railroad Commissioners ordered Lombard to be a regular stopping point for Northern Pacific Trains Nos. 3 and 4 to end a travel hardship. Montana Railroad trains 7 and 8 were rerouted to speed Helena travelers to Lewiston, but Lombard’s status was changed and later restored for passenger and express service. Ticket sales to Lombard are now authorized.
The Scan dinavian Lutheran church building project awarded bids from 28000 to 313000 with mason work to George R Reynolds and carpenter work to Frank Larson. Construction to start immediately and finish by Christmas using native stone and colored cement blocks.

Omaha July 10 Assistant General Passenger Agent Buckingham of the Burlington announced a 2 cent fare across all Burlington points within ten days regardless of state bills. The line serves Montana Wyoming Colorado Nebraska Kansas Missouri Iowa Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota and South Dakota. Clerks are finalizing the tariff and the new rate will go into effect when completed. The move is expected to prompt similar action by neighboring roads in the region.
C S Nuzum from Deer Creek ranch details a bumper dry land rye harvest after sowing 27 acres with 1900 pounds of Sweet Grass county produced seed. He says 125 roads of fall rye were harvested last week demonstrating potential for dry land farming and notes rye suitability for range stock compared to other seeds except native blue stem.
D DeBeer a theological seminary student from Grand Rapids Michigan preaches near the Hollanders about fifteen miles north The group including Louis Fred and Dick Plaggemeyer hiked in the Crazy mountains for a day of sightseeing They chased and wounded a large brown bear sighted on a mountain and finally bagged it with Ed Druckemiller The bear weighed about 175 pounds and was six feet long

Grand burlesque circus and parade announced for Melville on August 3. The event features elephants, giraffes, lions, panthers, tigers, a sacred cow, balloon ascent, races, sparring, Indian dance, minstrel acts, polo, broncho busting, and a grand costume ball. Local citizens promise an entertaining first annual sports day with full crowd enjoyment.
