Sweet Grass County valuation rises with broad gains

Assessor Jarrett reports Sweet Grass County total valuation excluding railroads at 83 691 056, up 428 124 from last year, driven by real estate and improvements. Stock sheep increase adds 105 576 in value, range horses rise 11 530, work horses up 33 545, yearling cattle up 3 820, while stock cattle fall 28 752 and mortgages shrink by more than half.

Lombard Becomes Regular Stop for NP Trains 3 and 4

The Board of Railroad Commissioners ordered Lombard to be a regular stopping point for Northern Pacific Trains Nos. 3 and 4 to end a travel hardship. Montana Railroad trains 7 and 8 were rerouted to speed Helena travelers to Lewiston, but Lombard’s status was changed and later restored for passenger and express service. Ticket sales to Lombard are now authorized.

Two-Cent Fare Plan Across Burlington System

Omaha July 10 Assistant General Passenger Agent Buckingham of the Burlington announced a 2 cent fare across all Burlington points within ten days regardless of state bills. The line serves Montana Wyoming Colorado Nebraska Kansas Missouri Iowa Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota and South Dakota. Clerks are finalizing the tariff and the new rate will go into effect when completed. The move is expected to prompt similar action by neighboring roads in the region.

Nuzum Reports Dry Land Rye Yield From 27 Acres

C S Nuzum from Deer Creek ranch details a bumper dry land rye harvest after sowing 27 acres with 1900 pounds of Sweet Grass county produced seed. He says 125 roads of fall rye were harvested last week demonstrating potential for dry land farming and notes rye suitability for range stock compared to other seeds except native blue stem.
