A Tuesday storm from the Crazy mountains dumped heavy hail and rain on Otter Creek country. Knute Anderson's ranch suffered total crop loss while bridges were swept away and Otter Creek rose seven feet. Old residents call it the worst storm they have seen.
Hunters Hot Springs near Livingston suffered a cloud burst Tuesday with four feet of water flooding the new hotel basement valued at about 100000 dollars. No furniture was damaged due to concrete walls, and officials will pump out the water. The area lies on a watershed where heavy rains sent a river of water through the coulee, with prior floods causing notable damage in recent years.
Registrations for lands in the Spokane Coeur d Alene and Flathead reservations rise rapidly with 20 011 on Spokane 20 033 on Coeur d Alene and 12 907 on Flathead filed with Judge Witten in four days total 53 000. The first range cattle of the season arrived in Chicago from eastern Wyoming. They were below the usual initial quality and not a strong index for future prices. Steers sold at five dollars and heifers at five to five dollars sixty cents, with more consignments expected after August.
The Huntley Irrigation Project in Yellowstone County hosts the first school fair on September 2. About 150 pupils cultivate school gardens and prepare practical exhibits from radishes to watermelons. Girls bake and sew while boys craft furniture and tools. Cash premiums reward self made work. Local and state attendees expected to witness farm youth skills.
