City Council Puts Budget, Appointments On Agenda
City Council tackles a dense agenda including finalizing a 65 mill budget by July 25, confirming Ed Brannin to fill a vacancy, approving a city pumper relief plan with mutual aid, renewing planning board members Lois Bjorndal and Marie Flick, and considering campground, parking enforcement, water use, and landfill issues. The Class of 1937 from Sweet Grass County High School plans a 40th reunion on Saturday July 23 at Moose Hall Big Timber. Registration starts 6 15 p m with dinner at 7 00 p m. Attending members include many named alumni from Billings Livingston and Big Timber among others. Dancing will follow the dinner and all SGCHS graduates are invited.

Dust Control Uses 1930s Oil on Old Boulder Road
The county applied about 4000 gallons of old oil stored since the 1930s to dust on portions of Old Boulder Rd. It was discovered by Karl Bryan that the oil belonged to the county. With new construction forcing relocation and no value, officials approved its use while noting current regulations prohibit random dumping.

Fall Wood Cutting Guidelines Published by Forest Service
Ranger Roger Siemens of the Big Timber District says maps to wood cutting areas in national forests will be published in early fall. The Forest Service is not encouraging gathering firewood now due to hazardous fire conditions, but detailed directions and simplified maps will permit access after the end of August.

Rural boxholders sampled this week
The Pioneer is distributing sample copies in Big Timber Post Office boxes to introduce readers to the paper and to encourage subscriptions before a price hike on August 17. Subscriptions rise to 8.50 yearly in county, 9.25 in-state out of county, and 10.50 out of state.

Mt County clerks receive 1000 dollar NES scholarship
A check for 1000 dollars was presented July 14 to the Montana Association of Clerks and Recorders by News Election Service NES. The award honors public spirited cooperation by Montana county and precinct election officials in voluntarily reporting precinct vote totals. NES is formed by ABC News AP CBS NBC and UPI. Joyce Lippert of Big Horn County accepted the award.
