Budget talks mark July 7 council special meeting

City Council votes resignation and budget prep
The City Council in regular session July 5 accepted the resignation of council member Gary Propp who also left SGHS teaching. He will join Billings schools. Wedding on the waves at Yellowstone River boat ceremony
Marjean Fredericks and Leonard Davis of Billings wed in a riverside ceremony at dawn on the Yellowstone River. Officiated by Justice Erma Ferguson under a new ruling, the event featured a rubber kayak ceremony, a double ring with beer tab "rings," daughters Vickie and Keri as witnesses, and a ride off downstream in the kayak.

The Chamber of Commerce Board met July 8 with new officers to select tentative committees for member review at the noon July 22 meeting at Frye's. Members will offer additions at the July 21 session and grant final approval. Suggested groups include membership by laws local government retail business interstate planning agriculture tourist promotion and industrial development. 77 Boat Float Memories Highlight Big Timber Effort
The 1977 Yellowstone River Boat Float drew several hundred participants with Big Timber Lions Club serving steak to about 300 Friday and Saturday. Floats endured low water, patches and zinc oxide as repairs and breakfast by Big Timber Jay teens kept spirits high amid near noon river passage and two capsize incidents. First day lunch was at Springdale served by the 4 H Council.

Parking problem aired at City Council meeting
City officials in Big Timber discussed street congestion after merchants and employees occupy curb spaces. A 10 minute limit near the Post Office was proposed to free spots for mail customers. Merchants were urged to use the Cort Hotel site or rear lots to free downtown blocks for shoppers.
