Firecrackers cause tension as youths in town risk safety by throwing from cars into crowds and buildings. The editorial urges sane celebrations and reminds property owners of a meeting at the fire hall at 8 PM to discuss street oiling costs and specs for the first project, urging all owners to attend.
Tonsillectomy for Lois Valgamore at Lott hospital in Livingston last Thursday. George H. Price leaves tonight for the San Diego naval base after 30 days with his mother Mrs. Frances Price. County shearing near done with bands prepping for Boulder Jardine range trek. Floyd Pierce and Harv Fincher groups drive to Virginia City yesterday, return via Hebgen lake and the park. Mrs. J. M. Farnes and three children depart for Denver after a week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Robinson. Dorothy Nelson has tonsils removed at Bozeman hospital last week and went home that evening. Carl Lindgren and family from Phillip S. D. plus Agnes Naylor of Longview visited the Lindgren family. Naylor niece will summer here. Mrs. Lloyd Anderson and Mrs. Olive Montgomery with their children visit John Satre’s home. Andersons return home, Montgomery and son stay longer. Mrs. George Steinmetz of Berwyn Md. leaves for Colorado Springs to visit a daughter before returning home. Clarence Jones and wife return to Billings after a two week visit with relatives and park days. Lutheran Bible camp convenes at Lions camp near Red Lodge with Rev. E. E. Tollefson, Solveig Thompson and Sigrid Tollefson from Big Timber attending. Mrs. Anton Grande chief cook. Hans Beley and Mrs. Louis Beley attend funeral in Billings for David B. George drowned in a Billings pool. he is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beley. Mrs. Pleun Roebel Reed Point and Don Davison Billings attend wedding of Todd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
City council calls meeting for Friday at 8 pm in the fire hall to explain oiling costs and street plans in Big Timber. Proposed work covers Hooper from highway to Fourth, Fourth to highway, Second between Anderson and Hooper, Third to Hooper, and Anderson to Fourth, with other streets also planned. Several property owners have signed up, and a contractor offers to oil while idle between major jobs.
The Ropin n Ridin club plans a race meet at Big Timber fairgrounds on Sunday August 22 featuring eleven races and jackpot roping. Entry fees range from 5 to 100 dollars for various races with purses set at 50 percent of net gate plus fees. Awards include cash prizes for winner positions and a saddle displayed at Boe s store.
The Rev H S Tool longtime pastor of the Evangelical church in Big Timber since 1942 moves to Reed Point after a career across Montana. He previously led Reed Point twice, worked as district superintendent in Billings, and served Columbus before returning to Big Timber. He is succeeded by Rev F E Vines from Reed Point as the churches merge in Montana.
The Big Timber Red and Gun club states the magpie contest ends Saturday July 10 at 6 p.m. Total entries reach 1,353 birds and 987 eggs. Leaders include Bill Clayton with 536 old birds and 49 young ones, Albert Broughton 247 old and 201 young plus 141 eggs, David McKenzie 236 old 84 young and 659 eggs. Prizes include a .22 Marlin rifle, a South Bend reel, and a telescope rod.
H. W. Todd of that city marries Harold Kinyon of Eugene Oregon. The couple plans to reside in Livingston.
Miss Ruth Mahlum daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Mahlum has been chosen as one of 27 Montana girls to represent the state at the Future Homemakers of America national convention in Kansas City Mo July 6 9 She will be a Sweet Grass county high school senior next fall Montana's delegation will travel by chartered bus July 3 returning July 12 The event marks the first national meeting since the group’s founding with about 4000 students from 45 states Puerto Rico and Hawaii expected to attend
Grandson of Mrs Harv Fincher born to Mr and Mrs Paul B Jones of Southwick Idaho on June 24. En route home from vacation Mr and Mrs Leo Overfelt and Clarence stayed overnight with Mr and Mrs Oscar Drivdahl in Big Timber before continuing to Great Falls after a Canada trip.
The JayCees will hold a meeting Tuesday at 8 in the Big Timber cafe to discuss the swimming pool project. Representatives from all assigned groups should attend to review progress and feasibility of hiring staff as rain delays have slowed work. Work nights will continue as planned regardless of decisions.
The body of a man tentatively identified as Richard Thiebe of Kalispell was found on the Northern Pacific right of way about a half mile east of the crusher. He appeared to have fallen from a freight train and was badly mangled. Sheriff Walter Osborne Under Sheriff Oscar Fallang Jr and Acting Coroner Dean Lowry were at the scene around 6 this morning. An American Legion card from Kalispell post was found on the body but relatives had not yet been contacted at noon today.
Del Redland received his private pilot license Sunday after flight tests with a Park County field examiner. He is now qualified to carry passengers and owns a Piper Cub aircraft.
Ruth Elizabeth Cole daughter of Mr and Mrs Burton Ralph Cole of Lewistown became the bride of John Roger Boe son of the mayor and Mrs Harold Boe of Big Timber. The ceremony was in Big Timber Lutheran church with Rev E E Tollefson officiating.
Fifty two of Montana’s 56 counties attended a two day Montana Citizens Committee on Education meeting in Missoula. Delegates heard from Dr. Edgar Morphet Fulton Gale and Cleve Westby on school finance reforms and compared how Idaho Washington and Alberta handle educational problems. The group aims to draft a plan for legislative action next January and February.
Mr and Mrs Ray Morgan and daughters Shirley Sandra and Arlene of Seattle spent several days last week with Mrs Morgan's parents Mr and Mrs Wm Nevin at their ranch near Melville. They were on vacation from the Boeing plane plant where Mr Morgan is an engineer in the model design department at the wood tunnel section. He was recently presented a pin for five years service with the company. Mrs Morgan is also employed there.
Zenobia temple No. 5, Pythian Sisters, marked its 50th anniversary in Fra ternity hall with M. E. C. Frances Nevin presiding. Past chiefs attended, were honored with corsages, and shared memories. Guests from Livingston and Bozeman joined in, with poems, songs, and a large birthday cake as candles were lit for each neighbor.
