Claude H Messick of Edgar escaped serious injury after being shot while elk hunting near Gardiner Montana. He was hit in the right side by a small caliber rifle bullet as three or four hunters fired from the highway several hundred yards away. He drove to Gardiner then Livingston for medical care and was listed in good condition.

Former Resident Mabel Williams Dies in Everett Washington
Mrs Mabel Williams 37 of Grey Chiff and former local resident died at her home in Everett Washington last Friday. She had been released from Everett hospital a week earlier and was preparing to return to work when she was found unconscious after a fall. Funeral services were held in Everett. She leaves her mother Rosie Clark a husband Palmer Williams a 15 year old son and four brothers and three sisters.

Members missing eight consecutive meetings may be dropped, while delinquent members over six months may be dropped until reinstated. Montana's northern Yellowstone elk herd dropped by roughly 2,000, reports District Supervisor Gene Sherman of Bozeman. The elk lift operates fairly well with about 250 of the 600 live-trapped elk checked in by hunters at legal hunting areas.

Mobile chest X ray units operated despite blizzards isolating Melville Grey Cliff and Timber. 1053 X rays were taken here versus 1113 in 1949. 78 X rays at Grey Cliff. 108 at Melville. Hugh L. Overfelt 85 pioneer Sweet Grass county rancher died in Spokane Washington after a long illness following a stroke and blindness. He moved with his wife to Montana in 1900 and lived at multiple ranches before settling near Big Timber. Survived by two daughters six sons and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral at Evangelical United Brethren church with interment at Mountain View beside his wife.

Big Timber’s Sheep herders lost to Red Lodge 52-43 on the Red Lodge court after leading 16-11 at halftime. Jim McCauley led scoring for Big Timber with 16 points in the Columbus game as the locals pulled away in the third period for a steady 37-24 lead, then held on for a 52-43 win.
