The Ropin n Ridin club will hold its annual banquet at the Legion hall with the American Legion Auxiliary at the chuck wagon. About 75 members and guests are expected to attend tomorrow night.
Mrs. C R Vose donated nearly 300 books to the Big Timber Carnegie library. Librarian Mrs. Fallang and assistant Mrs. Walter Wells welcomed the boxes as the generous gift moved in, adding a broad mix of high quality literature in good condition.
Mem bers of the Nicholson family report Lt Commander Donald Nicholson was involved in a crash in England but not harmed. The collision between a U S Navy Neptune and a C47 at Burtonwood involved seven dead and seventeen injured. the Neptune crew reportedly escaped, while authorities investigate causes.
The Longhorns earned their second straight victory by beating the Montana Sportsmen of Livingston 44 to 36. Adolph Tronrud and Norris Johnson led with 16 points each, while Keith Harlan and Ernest Peterson played in Livingston’s lineup. They next travel to White Sulphur Springs on Monday January 21 to face the W. S. S. Panthers.
Dr and Mrs L W Baskett escaped serious injury when their car was side swiped by an oil tanker near Livingston. Mrs Baskett was thrown from the vehicle and treated for a neck injury, later released. Leo Cremer Jr rushed her to a Livingston hospital. cause cited as blocked visibility from whirling snow and two overtaking tankers.
Miss Dolores Hoem hosted a pink and blue shower at her home last Thursday evening for Mrs Theodore Slettebo Jr. Guests enjoyed socializing and received gifts while light refreshments were served.
Fort Worth reports Sam Hyatt of Hyatville Wyoming was elected president of the American Cattlemen's association as 1,500 cattlemen closed a convention. Delegates voiced opposition to price controls subsidies for livestock slaughter quotas and other national administration farm policies.

Pvt. Henry J. Valgamore of Big Timber Montana, serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Korea, is awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge. The honor marks his frontline role with the 14th Regimental Combat Team within the division.
Big Timber opened conference play with a 43 36 loss to Red Lodge in Hardin where Murphy led the Herders with 12 points. The next night Big Timber routed Hardin 35 28 at Hardin, building a 14 2 first quarter lead and finishing strong as Widdicombe added 15 points and Voges led the bench with 16.
A vicious blizzard blankets Sweet Grass County with about a foot of snow and 12 inch drifts, closing most rural roads. Highway 10 sections near Livingston and Big Timber face closures, while McLeod and Eagle Ranch areas sit isolated. Snow crews stand by as visibility drops to near zero and driving becomes hazardous.
Gilman Aller for the hot lunch committee urges surplus food donations to keep the Big Timber lunch program running through the year. The self supporting effort relies on 25 cents per pupil per meal plus 6 cents state aid, with scarce state surplus commodities delaying full support. More than 150 pupils are enrolled, and any food including a chicken from a family would boost the effort.
The adult riflery class led by Walter Osborne nears midway training with eight members listed and plans to qualify in four positions by early February. Sixteen others, including Boy Scouts, joined a Big Timber Laurel match where Team 11 posted 2926 and Team 1 2879, while league results show multiple local teams posting scores and Laurel’s Kucera top with 382 in a four position match.
Mrs. Fred Thompson was admitted to Community hospital on January 10 for medical care and released on Sunday. A license was issued Saturday at the court clerk’s office in Bozeman to Donal E. Stole aged 30 of Livingston and Patricia L. Moore aged 20 of Bozeman.
The Sweet Grass county soil conservation district held its first annual meeting on Tuesday with a morning business session and noon luncheon at the Legion hall. Ballots counted in the afternoon re elected 4. P. Forsythe to the board. other supervisors named include Tom Jarrett Lars Forland Horace Bunston Louis Krone and Howard Forsythe. About 80 ranchers and guests attended. 46 voters were present. Door prizes were donated by local businesses and fourte en tickets were awarded during the event.
Big Timber added a new snow removal scoop attached to a tractor for the city maintenance department. The test on McLeod Street cleared curb to curb between the highway and Third Street in a few hours, finishing after 1 AM. Ground blizzard this morning did little to affect the cleared area.
The American Legion team defeated the Livingston Wildcats 44 to 40 on home floor led by McCauley with 19 points. Johnson added 16 as the Legion held a 19–? halftime edge. Lawellin topped Livingston with 15 points, Williams had 14. Next home game hosts Billings Moose Lodge. a preliminary for two high school girls teams is slated.
