Wool sale nets higher price on Philadelphia market

H J Giltinan of White Sulphur Springs reports last season’s wool sold on the Philadelphia market at 18 cents, with consignments to his own order yielding 1.5 to 2 cents more than would have occurred at Billings. Nearby, Peter Magelsen winters 4,000 lambs in prime condition with no hay fed, and weight averaging over 85 pounds. Other movements include B S Hollopeter shipping 1,900 sheep to be fed in South St Paul and later sold in Chicago, and C H Merrill sending Western stock including fat lambs at 6.40, yearlings at 5.60, and 135-pound wethers at 5. The Gallatin County Republican notes various buyers and consignments, including Sigmund Thamling purchasing 2,400 head of 3-year-old ewes and Welcome Minnesota shippers loading 17 cars of sheep for Chicago markets. Beasley of Big Timber purchases lambs fed by Martin and Robinson for sale in Chicago at about 4.75 per cwt, with remarks on the quality of the stock.
