Two Additional TV Channels for Big Timber
Mac Clark announced last week that two new channels will be added to the Big Timber cable once the FCC approves. The microwave equipment is ready, with four-channel reception delayed only by regulatory clearance. The system will carry KOOK and KGHL from Billings, plus KCPX of Salt Lake City and KTLE of Pocatello.

Amendment Would Reduce UC Costs
Montana unemployment law amendments proposed by the State Unemployment Compensation Commission at its Friday meeting would cut annual benefit costs by more than 5.5 million dollars. The plan restores the employers experience rating tax system with rates from 0.5 to 2.7 percent and would bar payments to occasional and highly seasonal workers. Commission chair Donald D. MacPherson led the final day as labor spokesmen opposed cuts and some favored higher benefits.

Graders Split Double-Header With Columbus Midgets
In Columbus Saturday evening the Big Timber Lions and seventh grade team split. The seventh graders won 28 to 17 while the Lions lost 25 to 17. Columbus trailed early but led 12-7 at half and held Big Timber to two points in the third. Top scorers: Porsumer 10 for Columbus. Simmons 10 for Big Timber. Herbert L Griffith Dies in Great Falls
Herbert L Griffiths 60 a former service officer for the veterans welfare commission died unexpectedly last Thursday at his Great Falls home. A World War I veteran born in Great Falls he worked with the state welfare department in Missoula Boulder and Livingston before serving with the veterans welfare commission in Livingston and later in Great Falls. He married Helen Pike in 1929 at Helena and is survived by his wife a daughter in Akron Ohio a brother in California and a sister in Arizona. He was active in the Methodist church the American Legion post in Great Falls and the 40 and 8 unit in Livingston.

Traffic death toll projected for 78 hour Christmas weekend
The National Safety Council warned as many as 510 people could die in traffic accidents during the 78 hour Christmas holiday period if motorists and pedestrians fail to exercise extra caution. Speeding and alcohol were cited as chief factors. The 1955 tally reached a record 609 for a three day weekend, while a normal non holiday weekend would see about 350 deaths.
