About 200 people from the county and surrounding towns attended Saturday at The Wheel in Grey Cliff to honor Mr and Mrs Anton Krone on their silver wedding anniversary. Jake Crane acted as toastmaster and gifts were presented. The Krones wed in Big Timber on December 5 1923. Their son Ivan and daughter Mrs Donald Dodge of Chicago attended the celebration.
In western Berlin, Germans defied Soviet backed communists by turning out in large numbers for a municipal vote. Officials cited districts with over 90 percent participation, while 80 percent would signal a communist defeat. Police arrested 65 in western sectors amid protests.
Joseph M. Howe aged 45 died at Lott hospital in Livingston after a brief illness pneumonia listed as the cause. Funeral services were conducted at St Andrew's Episcopal church with burial in Mountain View cemetery. He was born January 22 1903 in Bazaar Kansas lived in Montana since 1915 and worked in Hardin Laurel Big Timber and Livingston. Surviving are two sons his parents two sisters and a brother in the armed forces.
The Big Timber JayCees discussed sponsoring a Rubinoff concert with 65 percent of receipts to Rubinoff and 5 percent to a War Memorial fund. They voted to apply for the concert in April and to create a “outstanding young man” award for the community with a three member committee to pick five judges. They plan a banquet for the winner and invite city officials to advise on a safety program. A social party is planned for late December to early January with a arrangements committee named.
Rep Judd of Minnesota declares Russia “has all but won the war in the Pacific” due to American blunder and default at the National Association of Manufacturers congress. He warns China’s fall would expand Soviet influence and urges UN reform and mobilization of US political and economic strength.
Mr and Mrs Jake Plaggerman celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with a parish hall banquet Thursday evening. Relatives and close friends attended including their daughter Mrs Bill Cremer and son Bill of Sheridan Wyoming and Rev E E Tollefson who served as toastmaster. A program featured readings solos and a wedding march. The couple wed in Big Timber on November 26 1923 and have resided here since.
Senator John Bricker urges a four man panel to form a commission to determine if the United States is sliding toward dictatorship. The final session of the General Assembly of the states then adopts resolutions to expand state government functions.
Three University of Montana students and one Montana State College student are selected as recipients of $250 Montana Automobile Dealers Association scholarships. James L. Hanson of Big Timber Robert Wagnitz of Missoula and Lowell Sheets of Hamilton share the university award, Oscar Novak of Coram wins the MSC award. All four are World War II veterans and seniors in their programs.
President Truman endorsed a proposed thorough investigation of lobbying in Congress. He called it salutary and praised the International Association of Machinists for proposing it, saying it counters high powered lobbying and special interests that swarmed the capital.
Roger B. Hollenbeck, noted for prize-winning March of Dimes infantile paralysis posters, is in a General hospital iron lung receiving treatment for polio. He arrived in Los Angeles from Michigan three weeks ago and was struck down Wednesday.
The American Legion Auxiliary schedules Friday night meeting with Christmas welfare programs and related activities.
Commissioner J F Clark outlined federal aid totaling 243000 for Montana over three years and the county hospital project in Sweet Grass approved for funds 42500 of bond raised costs. He described a 10 unit ward with nine single rooms, possible doubling with a second wing, and a spring start for construction.
Claude T. Williams 56, Northern Pacific agent, died yesterday afternoon from cerebral embolism. He had been on sick leave since June 5 and planned to return this Saturday. Funeral 11 a m Saturday at Congregational church, burial at Bozeman Cemetery with American Legion rites. Brother Walter Williams from Milford Ohio attends. Obituary next week.
The American Legion Independ ents extended their winning streak by defeating the Columbus Independents 59 to 40 on Friday. Bob Deegan and Herb McCauley led with 16 points apiece, plus contributions from Ellisons and O Dell. A Sunday rematch in Columbus ended 68 to 56 with McCauley scoring 20. The Legionnaires beat the Harwoodton VFW 59 to 45 and face Billings Shadoons on Monday and Lewis town Midway Chips on Wednesday as top independents challenge their perfect record.

A meeting in Sweet Grass county to organize the CROP program will be held Monday December 13 at St Josephs hall with a 12 noon free lunch. Fr P C Wolframski was named temporary chairman after a failed previous gathering. George Sime of Bozeman explained the plan.
