Reed Point Resident Earl Cooper Dies After Illness
Earl Lawrence Cooper 78 of Reed Point died at Sunset Manor in Columbus after a two and a half month illness. Funeral services were held Friday at the Reed Point EUB church with Rev. E J Bott. burial in Reed Point cemetery. Born February 23 1883 in Trumin Minnesota he lived in Jackson Minnesota before moving west to Montana in 1916. He married Gertrude Sallstrom in 1934 and retired to Reed Point in 1945. Survivors include his widow three nephews and two nieces.

Army Reserve Hosts Seniors For Military Obligation Demo
The Big Timber Army Reserve unit led by Captain Bud Pile hosted twenty senior boys from Swee tossi High School on November 28. They rode in an Army 24 ton truck to a public safety range for a live fire drill using a .30 caliber light machine gun, then returned to Legion hall for a 30 minute instructional film on fulfilling military obligations. Sp Vern Spurgin provided doughnuts and pop after. Accompanying staff included Jack Meskimen, Captain Barnes, Sergeant Podlas, and Captain Gilsdorf.

Golden Anniversary for Reed Point Couple in Seattle
Mr. and Mrs. James S. Baxter celebrated their fifty years of marriage with a service at Highline Methodist church Seattle on November 19. Attending were their four sons and three daughters with spouses sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild plus relatives and friends. The event featured music by Ricky and Robin Baxter and a three tier cake baked by a daughter. Mr. Baxter from Reed Point since 1896 and Mrs. Baxter from Montana married November 19 1911. They returned home after two weeks in Seattle.

Dick Nicholson Dies Unexpectedly in California
Dick Nicholson, 35, died in Menlo Park California from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a Sweet Grass county high school graduate and worked in medical research at Stanford. Funeral services are Monday at 2 PM at the Big Timber Lutheran church with burial in Mountain View. Dean Lowry and Chuck Nicholson travel to Menlo Park to retrieve the body. He is survived by his mother Helen Nicholson two sisters Mrs Henry Elgen and Mrs Gerald Cashen and a brother Navy Commander Donald Nicholson.
