A McLeod area rancher’s wife writes of 36 days of hunters invading her home every day. She details crowded living spaces, unwelcomed guests, and the strain of hosting, joking that next year a gate sign will welcome hunters with rules. She concludes noting it’s a sporting man’s paradise.
Three damage actions were settled out of court: Joann Little vs Frances Strobel, L W Hageman vs Frances Strobel, and Darrel Ashdown vs Luther Gunther. The jury was excused until December 29 when it will hear the state vs Howard J Bloom, a case of alleged false pretences defrauding Arne Hoem of 1524.90, with Bloom held in county jail.
Mr and Mrs C A Bishop celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with an open house at the Haas home drawing about 75 friends. The couple moved to Big Timber in 1909 after marrying in 1900 in Burnettesville Indiana. He served as county treasurer and unemployment head and is a longtime justice of the peace.
Mrs Ma bel G Gudmunson announces the sale of the Big Timber Rest Home to Mrs Katie Black and Mrs John Pettit of Harlowton with possession to be given today. Pettits daughter Linda Kay and Black’s RN duties at Community Hospital are noted as part of the arrangement.
More than sixty friends and relatives attended an open house Sunday in Grey Cliff honoring Mrs. Lou ise Keppler on her 85th birthday. The event featured a hemlock decorated tea table from Oregon, vocal and accordion performances, and a birthday cake served by local helpers.
Noreda Mauland daughter of Mr and Mrs Jonas Mauland and DeWitt Ponder son of Mr and Mrs Hollis Ponder of Houston were married at the Big Timber Lutheran church. The 2 pm ceremony drew 150 guests with Rev Ocee Johnson officiating. Attendants included maid of honor Jadawega Maitland and best man Calvin Lavold. The reception featured bronze mums, a four tier white cake, and a Lutheran Ladies Aid hosted event as the couple began their married life.
Peter Graham McKeith 87 pioneer of Reed Point died at his home Friday. Funeral Sunday at EUB church with Rev. E. J. Batt officiating. Burial in Reed Point cemetery. Survived by widow Gertrude, sons Donald P. McKeith of Powell Wyoming and Owen McKeith of Reed Point, sister Efimia Gilmore, two Scottish nieces, six grandchildren. Born June 30 1873 in Glasgow.
Winners at the Silver Tip Bar include John Black first with a 234 pound buck, Lars Egeland second with 21114, and Pat Pederson third with 211. The pot split 50 30 20. At the Legion drawing event Lawrence Allestad took first with 21314 and George Myers second with 207. John Black placed third with his 234 pounder. The pot again split 50 30 20.
Justice Court reports multiple traffic fines with names and amounts for speeding at night and improper passing. Individuals include John Rog ers, Kenneth Chapman, John R Latta, Robert P Treglie, Theodore Chemodurow, David C Busha and Allen O Hathaway each fined $15 for night speed. Bill L Doig fined $10 for improper passing over center line. Betty K Edwards fined $10 for improper passing an obstruction. Robert G Hilderbrandt fined $10 for restricted license use. Wesley Campbell of Billings posted $75 bond on deer killing with artificial light. Fred W Fee of South Dakota posted $150 bond for possession of two special deer licenses. Milton Jodrey of Billings posted $27.50 bond for deer-tag filling.
George the last of the summer residents to depart Boulder left Tuesday for Paradise California to spend the winter months. Thanksgiving plans aim at the home of Mr and Mrs William Boyd with Mr and Mrs Ralph Porter and son of Bozeman Gordon Boyd of Mammoth and Mrs Raene visiting in Billings with friends.
Big Timber voters will ballot Tuesday December 13 on renewing The Montana Power Company natural gas franchise. The 50 year term, nonexclusive, would allow use of streets and alleys for gas mains with freeholder approval and no city costs. The current franchise ends February 18 1961 and approval is urged to avoid service interruption.
The Sheepherders start 1960 with a 70 29 defeat at Conrad as Kiel leads Conrad with 13 and Robinson 12 while Beley Huyser and Stephens show promise. A Friday trip to Fort Benton brings 35 45 loss as illness strikes Herders and Dick Christ suffers blood poisoning ending his night early.
Evangelist and chalk artist Peter G. Penner will present a chalk talk program at Community Bible Church located at 610 East Fourth on Friday December 2 at 8 p m. The event invites all to hear his message through words music and chalk illustrations.
Mrs. Alice Myrstol, wintering with her sister Mrs. Gladys McCampbell in Santa Ana, reports that everything is pretty there. She notes Gladys mowed the lawn, she picked ripe grapes, and they visited the Melvin Petersons in West Yellowstone en route to California.
The jury awarded M. W. Peterson of Joliet $250 for unpaid wages as ranch manager and $83.53 for money advanced to William L. Thomas of Toledo. Thomas alleged $18,809.03 in damages for alleged misrepresentation by Peterson as a real estate broker. the jury awarded nothing on Thomas's counterclaims. Attorneys were E. O. Overland for Peterson and O. J. Paulson for Thomas.
Postmaster Harold McLauchlan urges early mailing to speed service. He advises starting with stamps, wrapping, and using two bundles labeled for local or out of town delivery. Dec 10 for out of town and Dec 15 for nearby mail, with best hours to visit the Big Timber Post Office before 10:30 am or 1:30–3:30 pm.
Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson 80 wife of County Commissioner Tom Anderson died Saturday night at home after years of poor health. Born November 3 1880 in Songndal i Dalene Norway she moved to Big Timber in 1905 and married in 1907. Funeral services were held at the Big Timber Lutheran church with interment at Mountain View.
The Sweet Grass County Wool Marketing association schedules its annual meeting for December 12 at 1 30 p m at the American Legion hall. One board seat will be filled and a debate on whether the pool should sell early and late shearing. Speakers include Jim Drummond James Bassett from Bozeman lab and Everett Shuey Montana Wool Growers secretary. Members must file withdrawal in writing by January 1 or remain in the 1961 pool with a five cent per pound fine for selling outside the pool.
Richard Hager, Montana Junior Red Cross central council chairman, returned Saturday from a three day Pacific council meeting in San Francisco. He flew expense paid by plane and reached Seattle after circling the airport 38 minutes in a storm. He was met by his sister Mrs George Turman and then went to San Jose for Thanksgiving with his uncle Albert Baun.
Fair View ranch of Melville showed the reserve champion bull Prince Fair View 79th and the reserve champion female at the North western Rocky Mountain Angus show in Lewistown. Prince Fair View 79th brought $885 from Eric Hill of Geyser. the open yearling female sold to J. T. Turner of Red Lodge. Forty one bulls in the sale averaged $500.
Hemphills from Havre visited Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hemphill and three children with Mrs. Edythe Cameron. They spent Thanksgiving day in Rapelje with Howard’s relatives.
