The 1976 Sweet Grass County Fair concluded with a lively auction and ribbon awards. 4-H and FFA participants earned $19,977.71 in sale money, with grand champions selling to local buyers and multiple showmanship trophies presented. Awards totaled cash from Citizen's Bank and Trust Company and 1st State Bank, plus additional trophies from supporters.
Principal Vance Ramberg announces registration for Sweet Grass County High School on August 26 and 27 for freshmen through seniors with staggered times. New students pay 9.50 each. activity tickets 6.00. book deposit 3.50 refundable. School begins August 30 with lunch 50 cents.
Grade School principal Ed Argenbright shared that new student registration will be held August 19 and 20 at the Big Timber Grade School from 9:00 to noon and 1:00 to 4:00. Returning students need not attend, kindergarten cutoff is five by Sept. 1, and birth certificates are required. Pre school orientation will precede classes on August 27 and 28 with teachers reporting the 29th.
Reedpoint classes begin August 23 with registration and a full day schedule. School hours stay 9 a.m. to 3 30 p.m. Hot lunch will be served and bus service remains on regular schedule. Teacher orientation occurs August 20 21 with a noon luncheon on the 20th.
The council unanimously approves sewer rates set at one dollar per month for residences and a business usage schedule. Mayor McLean Clark appoints Ed Sell to the Government Study commission. Minutes from Aug 2 and Aug 9 meetings were approved, and a scrap tractor blade sale for 50 dollars was authorized. Building permits were issued for five projects and September meeting dates set for the 13th and 27th.
Big Timber FFA with coach Lynn Godfrey won first place in livestock judging at the state fair in Great Falls on August 6 and 7. Team members included Bob Hogemark Floyd Thompson Glen Raisland Marvin Arlian with alternates Steve Clayton Karen Anderson Scott Langhus and Dan Hogemark. Individual results saw Floyd first and Bob eleventh in livestock judging, Marvin tied eleventh in soil judging, and Bob and Floyd among top ten in range judging.
SGHS announces 8:30 am practice on Monday August 23 led by Coach Jim Graham for the 16 game season starting September 16. Returning letter winners include Fuller Gust Jabs Kinsey McCauley Rue Schuster Stief and Tronrud with JV team strong. last year 12–11 with conference and district finishes.
