The SGHS Board discussed high school gym siding with August meeting notes and awaited estimates for alternate siding options. They approved nonpermanent budget steps, cafeteria upgrades, and routine business while confirming dress code stance and winter bus storage needs.
The Big Timber Grade School Board met August 19 with Superintendent Argenbright and members Johnson, Alexander, Sandsness, and clerks Duffey and Braaten. They reviewed summer renovations, the new speech therapist room, and the Student Handbook. The board discussed lunch schedules, dress code limits on clothing with lettering, records compliance, and the peg board bookkeeping system. Karen Postema will join as speech therapist after Sept 1, with a reduced salary.
Six Boulder Road mail boxes between Big Timber and Eight Mile Bridge were damaged last Wednesday in a vandalism incident. The Post Office cites penalties up to $1,000 fine and one to three years in prison for destroying mail boxes and Contents. Investigation continues as law officers pursue suspects.
Big Timber city officials pressed the sheriff to stop Unification Church sales of boxed sweets without a transient merchant license. Report notes Moonies recruit students, travel origins traced to Korea, with profits leaving the community and no Montana affiliates claimed.
Sweet Grass County received 50000 dollars in federal flood aid per Don Tetlie of the ASCS. 60 day signup window opens for ranchers to access cost sharing up to 80 percent for restoration of fences debris removal and land shaping with emphasis on irrigation systems. Private bridges and farm buildings damaged do not qualify for federal assistance.
A suspect is detained for questioning after an August 18 explosion damaged the Dennis family wagon used in the Wagon Train trek near East 5th Street. Black powder in a container may have caused the blast. tests on the suspect’s hands are sent to the ATF for results. A nearby pay phone at Park Motel was also damaged in a minor blast, with no money missing. Authorities consider the two events potentially connected as investigations continue.
Yellowstone Air Service celebrates the dedication of its new 80 by 60 foot maintenance hangar at City County Airport with an afternoon breakfast open house and dance. The event drew 250 visitors and included Cessna and FAA officials from Billings and Helena. Owners R W Ferguson and Russell and Justin Ferguson praised the day’s success as the service continues aerial applications and air taxi operations in Montana.
Wesley Hotchkiss was found guilty in Justice of the Peace Rose Crockett's court of criminal mischief after driving a car into a gate at the City County airport in the early hours of June 30. He was fined 35 dollars and given a 10 day jail term suspended for 30 days on the condition of restitution or paying for gate repairs. The damage was estimated at 25 dollars.
The Gallatin National Forest proposes a comprehensive travel plan addressing all travel forms in response to Executive Order 11644. Public meetings are set for September 1 in Bozeman and September 2 in Livingston to review the plan, with written comments due by September 30, 1976.
