Summer Recreation Concludes With League Wins and Ties
City of Big Timber wraps up a summer program featuring a little league basketball tourney a tennis event and final softball games. In Men’s softball teams B C and A shared places with Mosness Hauge and Fichtner captains. Blue team led by Theresa Barber defeated White led by Mary Ann Klindt in women’s play. Tennis saw Jim Graham lead a sixteen player field with Mike Henthorn runner up. Little League basketball finished in a three way tie among teams 1 2 and 4 with rosters listed. Field day winners included archery throws high jump and dash events with multiple top finishers led by Mike Henthorn and Charles Holycross.

County Weed Board Organizes Under New Montana Law
The county weed board appointed by the commissioners held an organizational meeting on August 6. Telmer Terland was named chairman for two years with Mike Breck and Kermit Anderson. Peter Rostad and Mayor Arthur Schump serve one year terms. Olaf Brekke, County Agent, is secretary. A copy of the weed law will be sent to landowners and an educational program will be developed with Soil Conservation and Extension Services, starting with a fair booth on noxious weeds.

Pack Trip in Beartooths Led by Miss Maxine Rupple
A six day Girl Scout sponsored pack trip in the Beartooth mountains featured Mrs. Dean Lowry Mrs. Nat Clark and Miss Mary Ann Klindt guiding sixteen participants including twelve scouts and eight adults. They rode mules covering about 90 miles in good weather seeing Wounded Man Lake Jordan Lake and Lake of the Woods while looping along the Stillwater.

Measure Would Fund State Wildlife Programs
Senator Metcalf says legislation would provide an additional 514 million dollars annually for state wildlife programs using the 10 percent federal excise tax on handguns. Sp5 Eddie Brannin, son of Mr and Mrs James Brannin, arrived in Billings on August 7 after 18 months in the Highland of Pleiku. He was among servicemen at Cam Rahn Bay evacuated to the states when the base came under rocket and mortar fire. The men, who had relinquished arms, sheltered in bunkers for five hours. After an 80 day leave, Eddie will report to Fort Lewis, Washington, for an eight month reassignment.
