James P. Graham Sr. age 60, father of James Graham Jr., died of a heart attack Sunday morning in Minneapolis while boarding a bus for a baseball game. He had served as Columbus postmaster for ten years and was well known for his sports involvement, especially basketball and football.
Dick Armstrong 67 longtime Sweet Grass county official died last Thursday at Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital after cancer treatment. Born July 11 1897 in Big Timber he served in World War I and married Mollie Sparrow in 1925. He held county clerk and recorder posts from 1939 to 1963 and was active in the American Legion and Big Timber Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include son John W Armstrong sister Nina Burkett and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday at the First Congregational Church with Rev. John Calhoun officiating.
Miss Elvira Jane Faw became bride of Larry Dean Bolzer Sunday afternoon at 2 30 in Evangelical United Brethren Church Big Timber. The ceremony featured garden flower decor and music by Mrs James Scholten and Mrs Don Haas. Rev W F Clingman officiated.
The second annual trail ride ran Thursday and Friday with 30 participants. Riders gathered at Box Canyon ranger station, rode 18 miles to Slough Creek and Frenchy’s Meadows, camped at Slough Creek, and later visited Silver Tip ranch and Gardiner area. They split into two groups for watershed and Yellowstone edge exploration with 82 fish counted. The event ended with talks on future plans and local wildlife.
The preliminary city mill levy is set at 37.5 mills for 1964 65, down from 38.0 last year. Assessed valuation is 4 204 197 with taxable value 1 146 542 versus last year 4 396 213 and 1 154 066. Proposed levies by fund: General 19.8, streets and alleys 8.8, parks 3.9, library 3.0, bond interest and sinking 2.0.

The Sweet Grass county fair opens at 10 a.m. Friday August 14 and runs to Saturday evening August 15. Entry blanks are due by Wednesday 5 p.m. at the county extension office. A Thursday night program includes a 4 H style show and an old time show with entertainment by the Highlighters and others. Prizes will be awarded in the old time show. livestock are due by 8 p.m. Thursday. exhibit building open Thursday 6–9 p.m.. non livestock exhibits must be in by 9:30 a.m. Friday with judging at 10 a.m.
Nat Clark of Big Timber won all five games to take Class A at the State AAU Horseshoe tournament in Livingston. Don Mosness of Livingston captured Class B with a 5-0 record while Clarence Boyle of Ryegate and Miller Bee of Lavina tied for Class C top honors, prompting a playoff. Herb Schellenberger of Billings won Class D with five wins. Carl Mosness earned the high qualifying score of 202, followed by Art Michelcic 195 and Clark 186. Twenty four players qualified for the event.
Funeral services for Leo Sack who died Monday at his home after a long illness will be held today at 2 p m at the Lowry Chapel Rev Ocee Johnson of the Big Timber Lutheran church will conduct the service and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery
Last week at the Gray ranch guests included Miss Zita Rowan from Newark New Jersey and Leo Rowan from Carthage South Dakota along with John Ass man of Winner South Dakota.
Mr and Mrs Bob Elgas and Mr and Mrs Jack Kiracofe returned July 19 from a Mackenzie delta expedition seeking Tule goose nesting areas. The project funded by a 3000 World Wildlife Fund grant aims to band adults for migrational data and acquire young birds for a captive propagational program to secure a future flock.
Ellen Lenetta Larson 51 wife of Arvid Larson died early Thursday at the ranch home from cancer. Funeral at Big Timber Lutheran Church with Rev Queee Johnson officiating. music by Mrs Svend Maitland and E O Overland. Interment Mountain View. Born May 29 1913 Cushman Montana she taught in Glasston and other communities.
A severe thunderstorm swept through Big Timber last Thursday evening leaving extensive damage from Upper Swamp Creek to the Gibson area. The hailstorm reportedly struck multiple ranches including Arne Grosfield Louis Grosfield Tetlie Walter Paper Evelyn Zehm Jim How Sid Huyser Albert Osen Harold Faw Jim Fellows Arvid Larson Leo Cremer Albert Stuber and the Von Olnhausens.
The wedding of Miss Charlotte Caroline Eppens and Frank Walter Rust occurred Saturday July 25 at 8 p m at American Lutheran Church in Billings. Rev Gordon Tollefson officiated a double ring ceremony as white gladioli and lighted tapers decorated the altar. Mrs George Snell played the organ and joined Miss Kathleen Nitschke in singing I Love You Truly and Wedding Prayer. The bride wore white nylon and acetate lace with a floor length carriage back.
