Mrs. Violet McCauley was bitten and knocked from her bicycle in the 500 block of Hart Street around 9 15 p m July 27 by a dog that then prevented her from moving. She suffered puncture wounds and bruises. four witnesses and the dog owner Viehkt Hosel are named. steps toward complaint were started.
Mr and Mrs Bill McCaulley asked City Council for tougher leash law teeth after a loose dog incident. Assistant City Attorney Jim Tulley and Animal Control Officer Terry Johnston described enforcement challenges and proposed measures including cameras and warning tickets to curb chronic offenders.
The council approved four building permits and allocated 200 from Big Timber clergy for pool repairs. Barbara Sell was named to the Planning Board. Dee Monsen won approval for a 100 ft microwave tower to upgrade long distance service. The board debated library funds and budget cuts, and heard on water sewer policy and City Hall upgrades from Planner Mike Sierz.
The 1977 Big Timber Rodeo begins this weekend with a Sunday noon parade at the Fairgrounds arena followed by a 2 pm rodeo. Tickets go on sale daily at 8 am from the Dr Wistey office on McLeod St. General admission 3, reserved seats 40, bleacher 4.50 and 5. The parade features Rodeo queen candidates, horsemanship, modeling and speech events. Queen winner announced after the Grand Entry. Kesler Stock supplied by the Kester Rodeo Co with horses Three Bars Moonshine Hard Twist Creamo. Parade logistics and entries managed by Don Blur and Don Bur.
Informally the City Council moves to draft a preliminary contract for future bids on solid waste disposal. Rising landfill problems and inadequate revenues push exploration of alternate management, with residents paying a city set fee and the city handling all landfill input.
The 1977 Sweet Grass County Fair runs Thurs through Sat Aug 11 13 with an open class for hand and craft and 4H events. VH Style Show Thurs 8 pm, Showmanship Fri 8 pm, Fair Sale Sat 7 30 pm. Open Horse Show Sun Aug 14 starts 9 am with Halter morning and Performance afternoon. Entries due at the County Extension office by Fri Aug 5.
Dee Monsen of Continental Telephone Co. told the City Council that underground cable work at McLeod and Third Streets should be completed by the weekend as construction partially blocks the streets. A second phase along the alley behind the east side of McLeod began Monday, with further details to follow.
