Fire drill burns down house used for training
The Big Timber Fire Department burned the old Rhoades house on Fourth Avenue East as a training drill. Fire Chief MacLean Clark and volunteers used fuel to start the blaze and observed how a house burns and how to respond in real emergencies. Some spectators questioned the effort, but the exercise ended with the house destroyed as planned.

Butte Man Reunited with Wife After 40 Years
Joe Skender, a former Butte miner, was reunited with his wife in California after about four decades apart. They married in Yugoslavia around 1920 before he came to the United States. The reunion occurred Easter Sunday in Yuba City, California, where Skender now lives. His wife traveled from Europe by jet airliner, and he has never met their son who remains married in Europe.

Cub Scouts Awarded At Friday Pack Meeting
Cub Scouts received multiple awards at a Friday night pack meeting held in a Lutheran parish hall. Awards chairman Mrs. Dudley Tyler presented silver and gold arrows and badges to named scouts as the group prepares to organize under Frank Biglen and join Boy Scouts this summer. Scouts Participate in Cavalcade at Livingston
Big Timber Boy Scout and Cub Scout units attended the Scout Cavalcade in Livingston on April 23 with carloads of Scouts and family members. Over 50 residents from Big Timber joined the event as Cubs sold 106 tickets for the Livingston Cavalcade. top sellers were Ricky Henthorn Chuck Hauge and Bill Rule. The Cubs took part in the grand entry and wagon train event with praise from Cubmaster Art Olsen for youth participation. A post event potluck is planned for May 20 at 6 pm in the city park.

Three top senior girls and three top senior boys from Sweet Grass County high school will represent their school at High School Week at Montana State College in Bozeman from April 28 to 30. Attendees include Gloria Bee Sheryl Gee Jan Klindt Bill McLauchlan and Gary Thompson. A record 800 students will participate. Curricula discussion groups testing open houses and appointments with MSC faculty will fill the delegates schedule. More than 2000 in scholarships will be awarded as a result of the testing program.
