Frances Schriver directs a Grade School Spring Music Festival on April 21 in the auditorium. Students perform selections including America Sings, North to Alaska, My Old Kentucky Home, Swanee, and Dixie era tunes, with mixed group and grade level performances.
Ben Strickland presented films from his Canada expedition at the Livingston Rock club fish dinner and film showing in the Trail-Rite Inn, Liv ingston. The event showcased Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival scenes with dog team races, snowshoe contests, log lifting, canoe carrying, and other northern activities. The camera captured 40-below conditions, ptarmigan, a crowning queen, and a range of festival events, including the marathon snowshoe race and fat ladies’ race.
Hans Bensen 75 died at 12 noon Monday at the Big Timber Rest Home after a prior heart attack and liver ailment. Born to Danish parents near Luther on Red Lodge creek, he worked on Carbon county ranches and moved to Big Timber about 40 years ago. Funeral services were held at Lowry Chapel with Rev. Ben Knopp officiating and pallbearers named, interment in Mountain View.
Mr and Mrs James Baldwin owners of Lazy J Motel receive an Outstanding Rooms Award from American Motel magazine one of 34 awards. Ken Eymann editor notes readers will decide the top rated unit. Open house planned Sunday April 23 from 1 to 4 with refreshments. Bowling scores listed for several players.
Mrs. Virgil Gust flags a county wide cancer drive with workers appointed to canvass residents. Listed are volunteers for districts such as Melville White Beaver Upper Sweet Grass and Bridger Creek among many others including Norman Hale as West side Big Timber chairman and numerous Mrs. organizers assisting.'
The Jayceens sponsor a tea Friday from 3 to 5 p m in the library club room to observe National Library Week April 16 22. The public is invited with businesspeople urged to take coffee breaks then A door prize is offered and organizers Ed Adam secretary Mrs Stella Claiborn Mrs Beulah Patterson and Oscar Forsythe are listed. The library is funded by county and city levies and the board submits a budget.
Plans are underway for the third annual Girl Scout carnival in Big Timber to be held Saturday April 22 from 1 p m to midnight at the high school hot lunch room. The event features games with over 5 000 prizes, concessions, balloons, and treats with dozens of named volunteers and leaders coordinating各 booths and activities.
The Bjorndal and Davis families witnessed the wedding at First Methodist Church in Livingston. The bride wore an ice blue chiffon gown with lace and a white Bible, given in marriage by her father B N Bjorndal of Big Tins, as guests noted the elegant ceremony.
The Boy Scouts sponsor a pancake supper on Sunday April 30 from 5 to 7 pm at Congregational church fellowship hall. Adults pay $1.00 and children 50c. Proceeds fund troop camping gear and Flaming Arrow Scout camp expenses near Bozeman. advance tickets available. Scoutmaster Victor Schriver hopes it becomes annual.
Many friends paid tribute to Lloyd D Eder 23 at funeral services in the EUB church Columbus officiated by Rev David J Graff and Rev Arvid Lindley. He was killed when the tractor overturned trapping him under it while plowing with his brother Adelbert on the Reed Point ranch. He was born November 12 1937 north of Reed Point and graduated eighth grade Fairview high school valedictorian class of 56 after recovering from polio in 1954. He lived on the ranch and was active with Rapelje Masonic lodge and Lucky Clovers 4 H livestock club. He is survived by his parents and a sister Una Kay DeCock.
The Crafts Club invites children to submit artworks in any medium. Each exhibitor may present up to two pieces and must sign with age and grade. Pieces need not be school projects, but all exhibits must be in County facilities.
Mrs. Pat Fleming of Livingston was named queen during Montana TOPS State Recognition Day at the Legion hall in Big Timber. The event drew about 150 TOPS members from across the state, with Mrs. Fleming posting the largest one-year loss of 47 pounds.
The 63 member Sweet Grass County High School chorus struggled with poor pitch when the piano was moved away from the singing position at the district meet in Billings. Adjudicator noted good diction but blamed the misplacement for ratings IV and V for SGHS and two other groups. After the piano was repositioned, most groups improved to II and III.
Thirty nine band students performed solos and ensembles at Rocky Mountain College in District 9 Music Festival. Superior ratings qualify for state level competition in Missoula May 4 5 6. Notable mentions include Woodwind Quintet Excellent and Division I Clarinet Trio Superior with performers listed.
Mr and Mrs Anshelm Olin were honored at a Sunday open house in their Big Timber home marking 45 years of marriage. Relatives and friends from Pray Livingston Harlon Clark Harriet Tangan Alma Lindstrom and Art Murphy attended along with their daughter Betty Faw and grandchildren.
SGHS will enter a number of entries in the district 2 speech meet at Billings Senior High School on Saturday. Averyl Goosey and Jane Ann Beck compete in serious declamation, Andrea Rostad and Shelley Brennan in humorous declamation, Richard Hager in extemporaneous speaking. The district meet decides who represents the district at the state meet in Missoula May 12 19. Qualifiers must place in the top five in each category at Billings.
