Eighth Grade Pupils Graduate With Diplomas

The eighth grade class of nine students, eight girls and one boy, graduated last night at Buddhall. Diplomas were presented as essays on war topics and conservation, Wyoming industries, railroads, and towns were read. songs impressed the audience. Principal Miss Helen Stanley and diplomas by Al Osterhout were praised for guiding the class’s efforts.

Draftees Leave for Camp Lewis Friday

The Lincoln County Draft Board summoned Piney men for entrainment to Camp Lewis Washington tomorrow Friday May 1st. Names include Curry F Link Antone Subec Walter C Ball Rene N Wardell Hans C Sorensen and W C Meyer of Daniel. Subec the local blacksmith received a thirty day furlough to dispose of his interests. This will be a hard blow to ranchers as blacksmiths are scarce.

The school board gave an address to the class on stage with Mrs. Laurence Bess principal and J. B. Budd board president present. A large crowd attended and a dance followed the program.

Red Cross Drive Surpasses Quota With Strong Local Showing

The local Red Cross chapter more than doubled its $2 500 quota as they closed Tuesday with contributions and rodeo receipts totaling 5 219. The note adds that if every town matched this effort the national goal would be far surpassed. A donor list is being prepared for publication next week.

Registration Day Set For June Fifth For 21 Year Olds

A notice from the Big Piney postoffice states a registration will occur on June 5 for all young men who have turned 21 since June 6, 1917. Postmaster J. B. Budd will oversee registrants at the Big Piney office.

Lincoln School of Fontenelle Opens Under Miss Crummett

Fontenell Wyoming May 23 1918 The Lincoln School of Fontenelle began May 20 with Miss Ella Crummett teaching. Sunday school organized May 19. Local residents visitations and gatherings noted including donations to the Red Cross and several visitors at neighboring farms. A canary formerly sold at a Red Cross auction was later purchased by the Budd family child.

Newlyweds Serenaded With Charivari at Piney Ranch

A large crowd from Piney gathered Tuesday to serenade newlyweds Clifton Fear and Cornelia O Neill at the F A Fear ranch in South Piney. Gifts included a Buick light six touring car from the groom’s parents. Local residents C. P. Budd and Dorthea attended Eighth grade exercises. watchmaker Frank Phillips planned to open a repair shop in Pioneer Drug store.
