Fort Sanders 1869 hospital wing plans and conditions described
Post surgeon J H Frantz documented structures at Fort Sanders in 1869 noting a central administration building and a wing of a hospital, both partly completed. The admin block stood two stories high with a 9 ft 9 in ceiling, unfinished since 1866, while the wing housed two wards and a kitchen. Wards had ventilators, plus a verandah and rough finishing with logs and lath. Additional storehouses and stables were described, including a 230 ft long cavalry stable and a 200 ft square corral, with manure removal to the east.
