Biddeford Veteran Honored For Rug Hooking Art

Edwards S. Frost, Civil War veteran from Biddeford, brought rug hooking to high craft, creating the first hooking pattern in 1868 and a transferable stencil system. His work, patterns, and finished rugs are on display at the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, noting Frost’s influence on American craft and rug design. Brother Vincent of St. Louis High School observed the exhibit during summer studies at the University of Detroit.

Man Shot By Hermit In Woods

CHESUNCOOK LAKE A man known as the old hermit of Chesuncook Lake shot lumber operator Leslie Spear and is holed up in a cabin firing on deputies. Sheriff Har old True said the cabin was on fire and doctors could not reach Spear. Johnson, an elderly hermit, is believed to have fled into the wilderness after the shooting.
