Draft Call Highest Since Korean War

The Defense Department requests a December draft quota of 45,224 men the largest since the Korean War. The Army accounts for 40,200 of the quota with the Marine Corps at 5,024. the Navy and Air Force request no inductees. Total draftees since September 1950 reach 3,443,324.

Increased Training for Reserve and Guard in Select Force

About 150000 Army National Guardsmen and reservists will form a first line backup for the regular Army with roughly double the training now planned. The force draws from all states plus DC and Puerto Rico, totaling 31 000 Army reservists and 119 000 National Guard members. Training rises to 72 drills per year as the select force aims for an eight week mobilization window.
