Sumner Clark Named Thornton Academy Trustee

Sumner Clark of Portland was appointed to the Thornton Academy Board of Trustees by Headmaster Robert Bowie. A Thornton alum (1936), Clark earned a 1940 UMaine degree and a 1943 Harvard Law credential, now assisting the Maine Central Railroad president. He is a former Portland City Council chairman and Navy veteran, married to Dorothy Sherman with two daughters, Deborah and Suellen.

Teen-Age Escapee Caught After 24 Hours on Run Near Sebago

Portland teen Clifford Guptill, 18, who had escaped from custody three times, was recaptured with accomplice Larry McKenzie, 18, after fleeing police near Sebago Lake Station. Guptill, serving time for auto theft, fled through Gorham and Standish despite warnings. McKenzie and another teen, Roger Hanna, 25, faced charges for breaking into a home and stealing food.

Missing hunter sought after overnight trip in Maine

Walter Andrews, 65, of Calais is missing after a deer hunting trip near Charlotte. The Maine Fish and Game Department reported his disappearance in Augusta. Wardens searched through the night and resumed at daybreak with a department plane, facing numerous logging roads and blazed trails in the search area.
