Christmas club payments rise across four banks

A Journal survey shows the four Biddeford Saco area banks will mail $571 084 13 in Christmas club checks on November 12, up from $516 532 53 a year ago. The Pepperell Trust, York County Savings, Saco Biddeford Savings, and Biddeford Savings issue checks to thousands of local accounts with most funds staying in the area as shoppers spend locally.

Heavy turnout in Biddeford Saco and Old Orchard Beach

Voters in Biddeford Saco and Old Orchard Beach turnout strong in crisp November weather. By 11 a.m. Biddeford Ward 7 reported 600 votes and Ward 5 350, with estimates of over 2,000 votes in Biddeford and more than 10,000 total. Saco totals reached 150 in Wards 1 and 2 by 11 a.m., with six wards heavy. over 6,000 votes anticipated there. Old Orchard Beach near 1,500 predicted, polling hours set to 7 p.m. The state expects Maine’s highest presidential vote, with Nixon and Kennedy race wide.
