Farrell Pitches Colts Past Giants in Low-Scoring Win

Dick Farrell of the Houston Colts improved to 4-1 after limiting Willie Mays to 1-for-4 in a 4-1 victory over San Francisco. Farrell lowered his ERA to 2.14 while striking out Mays with runners aboard. The Giants’ base paths produced a bizarre double play on Jesus Alou and Matty Alou as Mays singled to start the fifth. St. Louis beat Philadelphia 3-2 and Cincinnati topped Pittsburgh 7-6 behind Pete Rose’s eighth inning homer. Julian Javier’s seventh inning shot supplied the Cardinals’ runs.
