Fire destroys Maine sawmill in Richmond

Kennebunk Firm Wins High Honor in Safety Contest

Kennebunk Light and Power District of Maine earned second place in the American Public Power Association Safety Contest for 1963 in Group E for utilities with 25,000 or fewer man hours. Ilion Board of Light Commissioners won first and Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District took third. APPA represents over 1,200 public electric utilities across 45 states and Puerto Rico.

Five Military Plane Crashes Reported

Ninety two persons dead or missing after four military crashes around the world. Most victims were American military personnel. A fifth U.S. Air Force fighter crashed in the Philippines but the pilot parachuted to safety. At Clark Air Base the four engine C135 with eighty three aboard crashed short of a runway, killing seventy three. Two more died later. eight survivors remained in hospital. The taxi driver and another American passenger were hospitalized. The cause of the crashes was not known.
